About Obama's Win

• Democratic Senator Barack Obama has been elected the first black president of the United States, prompting celebrations across the country.

• His rival John McCain accepted defeat, and called on his supporters to lend the next president their goodwill.

• And it was the biggest election in US history

Why is it important to vote?• It is important to

vote because:• You need to vote for

the person you want to win because otherwise you may end up with someone running the country that you don’t want running it.

• Also it could mark a historical event in the history of the US.

Background to black history

• Not all Americans have always enjoyed the right to vote. In fact, although the 15th Amendment granted blacks the right to vote, for nearly 100 years grandfather clauses, literacy tests, and poll taxes were impediments to this fundamental right.

• Martin Luther king and Rosa parks played a great deal in black history

• In 1963, Martin Luther King led mass protests against discriminatory practices in Birmingham, Alabama where the white population were violently resisting desegregation. The city was dubbed 'Bombingham' as attacks against civil rights protesters increased, and King was arrested and jailed for his part in the protests.

• He is the first black president to be elected ever in the history of the United Stated.

• During the election process there was a record number of votes from the American Public.

• Some people think that he’s too young and inexperienced for the job but others think that John McCain is too old and too like president bush.

• Obama won the total votes for 29 states compared to McCain's 21 states that he won the votes of.

• This is important in American history because Obama was the first black president to win the election, also it marks that black people have the same rights as different cultures of people.
