Presentation of the subject

Twelve million people are in famine crisis in horn of Africa, but this number of people will remain high into 2012.

Somalia is one of the areas most affected by the famine. Somalia has been experiencing a protracted conflict since 1991. The political and security context significantly devolved in 2009 and 2010.

This country faces a sustained and complex humanitarian crisis due to a combination of escalated conflict, perennial drought and subsequent food insecurity, disease outbreaks.

Abstract :

Deals with famine-stricken Mogadishiu, in Somalia. The United Nations help this country with food assistance.

Extract :   "The United Nations says food aid has been delivered to more than half of Somalia's people in need, but food insecurity will remain a major problem into next year.

The U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affair (OCHA) said Wednesday that more than 2.2 million Somalis have received food assistance, mostly in the famine-stricken south. However, the office said nearly two million others still urgently need aid.

It also said that despite a good rain forecast, "the number of people in crisis will remain high" into 2012."
