For my market research I wanted to find a target audience that I would be able to target my magazine towards and people’s opinions of magazines and their layout. As I handed out questionnaires it was primary research so the findings would be specific towards the making of my magazine.

1) As you can see from my market research the most popular age was 16-26 which made up 60% of the research, whereas 10-15 made up 10% and 38-48 made up 30%. From this I now know that my magazine will target this specific age group.

2) For my research I gave a questionnaire to 60% females and 40%males. As I interviewed more females than males I will take into account more about what the males say so I can balance out the results.

3) From the people I interviewed the most popular genre was rock and then following it was ‘other’ then indie, therefore, taking into account these results I will be focusing my magazine on indie and rock, and I will also include other niche bands within the magazine to cater for the people who ticked ‘other’.

4) For 60% of the people I interviewed they said that they do not buy music magazines and the other 40% do. As most of my audience don’t buy music magazines I need to pay more attention to what is put into the magazine so it will attract them to buying it.

5) For 30% of the people I interviewed they said that they like freebies to be included in the magazine so I will make sure I include them, for example, posters. Also 30% said that the cover-stars attract them to buying the magazine so I will make sure that the cover-star is the most known within the magazine, or is the biggest new-comer.

6) 50% of the people I interviewed said that they would be willing to pay £1-£2.50 for a magazine, as the largest percentage said this I will therefore be making the price of my magazine within this price range. As my target audience is the younger generation this price will suit them as it is not overly dear.

7) The largest percentage of people I interviewed said that they would buy a magazine once a month and 20% said they would buy a music magazine once a week. Taking these results into consideration I would probably make my magazine so a new issue comes out every 2 weeks.

From the results of all the questions I included in my questionnaire I now know what to base my music magazine around. For example, I have decided that my magazine will target both genders; however, my front cover image will be of a female so it might be more likely that females buy the magazine more. The majority of people I interviewed were 16-26; therefore I will be targeting my magazine towards that age group. I will be focusing my magazine on indie and rock, and I will also include other niche bands within the magazine so it appeals to other niche audiences. I will be paying more attention to what I include in my magazine as the majority of people I interviewed do not buy music magazines, for example, freebies. Half of the people I interviewed said that they would pay £1-£2.50 for a music magazine; therefore, my magazine will be within that price range,

which also links in with the age that I will be targeting because they will mainly be students, so won’t have much money. The majority of people I interviewed said that they would buy or do buy magazines monthly, however, some said weekly so I will be making my magazine so it comes out fortnightly.
