An Introduction to the Gulf Restoration Network
By Samantha Hilsenrod
An Introduction to the Gulf Restoration Network
Since 1995, the Gulf Restoration Network (GRN) has helped maintain the natural, economic, and recreational integrity of the Gulf of Mexico. Indeed, this inspiring grassroots organization has encouraged individuals from across the Gulf Region to protect and preserve this valuable aquatic resource. Originally, a branch of the Earthjustice Legal Defense Fund, GRN has pursued such issues as reducing polluted runoff and discharge, advocating for sustainable management of the Gulf’s fisheries, and protecting endangered species. Furthermore, the organization has spearheaded campaigns to reduce coastal development and limit the development of offshore mineral resources.

In recent years, GRN has also prioritized campaigns that focus on hurricane rebuilding, smart energy, and water quality. Headquartered in New Orleans, the non-profit organization has grown to include a satellite office in Florida.
