14:00 – 15:005G

The as yet undefined "5G" standard is already animportant agenda item for telecom operatorsworldwide with its promise of a tenfold increase in datatransmission speeds compared to current 4Gcapabilities, much lower system latency and higher celltraffic density making it a key enabler of the Internet ofThings. Without undermining existing networkinvestments, early movers in Japan and South Korea areamongst those vying for 5G leadership, with the firstcommercial trials anticipated between 2018 and 2020to coincide with major global sporting events. China hasmade a major ITU contribution on requirements. TheUniversity of Surrey’s 5G Innovation Centre envisage aperception of ‘infinite capacity’. The EuropeanCommission has pledged €700 million towards fundingPublic Private Partnership 5G research efforts. But will5G prove a hard sell for investors or consumers? Is itreally about capacity or capability? With 212 billionsmart devices forecast by 2020 (IDC), how do you sizethe market? With network virtualisation as a keystepping stone to 5G, what are the other enablingtechnologies? And crucially, what services will this nextgeneration user-centric network enable?

15:15 – 16:15Net Neutrality: Defining the Future ofThe Internet

An open Internet allows start-up companies to reachscale and offer services at marginal costs to a globalaudience. It has been the most important driver oftechnological innovation in this century. CappingInternet access based on type of traffic may end updiscouraging an open entrepreneurial environmentwhere human creativity, rather than technical orcommercial limitations, defines the boundaries ofinnovation. On the other hand, it's misleading tosuggest that broadband infrastructure was not a bigpart of all innovation the world has witnessed to date.Building this infrastructure costs enormous amounts ofmoney, often covered by telcos as well as cablecompanies and defining broadband as utilities mayhinder future investment in faster networks. Thissession will bring industry leaders as well as regulatorsto the forefront of the net neutrality debate, offeringour audience with a unique opportunity to engage inthis industry-defining topic.

15:15 – 16:15Mobile Gaming

The global video games business is set to break the$100 billion mark over the next year, driven in large partby the amazing growth in mobile gaming, which willaccount for more than a fifth of that value. But while theperformance of mobile platforms continues to increaseand to offer more varied, compelling and immersivegaming experiences, it seems that monetisation isalmost strictly limited to the freemium model, whichaccounted for more than 90% of mobile gamingrevenues in 2013. With much of the future growth inmobile gaming set to come from emerging markets, it’s

16:30 – 17:30Mobile Gamification

Defined by Gartner as ‘the use of game mechanics andexperience design to digitally engage and motivatepeople to achieve their goals’, gamification is a novelway to influence the behaviour of customers andemployees alike. Despite the fact that Gartner’s ‘HypeCycle for Emerging Technologies’ report recentlymapped gamification in the ‘Trough ofDisillusionment’, there is little cause to be alarmed, with its huge potential for a variety of applications, many of which are greatly enhanced by mobileconnectivity. For examples, utility companies globallyare expected to spend $13.5 million on gamification in2014, rising to $65 million by 2016, according to IDCEnergy Insights. This highly interactive session willtake a “gamified” approach to presenting theexperiences of utilities, brands, enterprises and otherkey early adopters.

Watch out forpeople creating distractions anddiversions.
