Windows Phone Statistics Report

Small changes this month as more devices grow in popularity.

Windows 10 Mobile continues to grow in popularity but not to the extent we previously reported.

In addition to the US, we look at device usage in detail in the big EU5, Russia, India and Brazil.

And finally, we provide a raw list of Windows 10 Mobile phones that usually fall into the “Other” category.

Data Source

This report is based on data collected from 5,219 Windows Phone apps runningAdDuplex SDK v.2 (and higher). The raw data analyzed was collected over the day ofFebruary 16th, 2016 (UTC time) unless otherwise stated.

We have made every attempt to consolidate different reported phone model namesunder their canonical retail model names, but it is possible that some of the rare modelname variations were not accounted for.

AdDuplex is the largest cross-promotion network for Windows Phone and Windows Store apps and games empowering developers and publishers to promote their apps for free by helping each other. AdDuplex was established in January 2011 in Vilnius, Lithuania. As of February 2016, more than 10,000 apps actively use AdDuplex to gain more visibility.

Windows Phone Devices WorldwideFebruary 16th, AdDuplex

The biggest growth this month is in the ‘other’ group as it grows 1.0% since January.The individual model with the biggest growth this month was for the 535 which gained 0.2%.

The popularity of the 520 continues to wane and is down a further 0.3% this month. The 530 also sees a drop of the same size and falls below the popularity of the 625.The biggest faller this month is the 635 which is down 0.6%.

Windows Phone 8 ManufacturersFebruary 16th, AdDuplex

The ‘Other’ manufacturers continue to grow this month (up 0.09%) at the expense of NOKIA/Microsoft (down 0.1%)

Last month BLU overtook HUAWEI as the fourth most popular device. This month we see their positions revert with HUAWEI up 0.04% and BLU down the same amount.

OS Versions – Worldwide February 16th, AdDuplex

Unfortunately we have a correction to make regarding our OS version reports for the last few months. The figures we had for devices running Windows 10 Mobile incorrectly included some devices still running WP8.1.

Big changes at the top and bottom of the top ten this month.The 635 is still the most popular but is down 2.0%Still in second place is the 640 which is up 2.4%

At the bottom of the top ten the 1020 and 1520 reenter the charts.

We last looked at the big EU5 four months ago and there have been a few big changes since then.The 535 is now the most popular device, up three places and 1.1%The 630 has slipped to second and has dropped the same percentage amount.The 640 has seen then biggest percentage growth, up 3.2 percent.The biggest loss is for the 520, down 3.1%.There’s also a single new entry for the 435.

In the last two months, the trend at the top, in Russia, has continued.The 630 is down 1.1%The 535 is up 0.8%The 640 is up 1.4%

The biggest other growth is for the 430 which was up 0.4%

The big loss since December is for the 535 which is down 1.0%.The biggest single growth is for the 640XL, up 0.5% and the Other group has grown 0.7%.There’s very little change beyond that as the 730, 630 and 525 are unchanged in their share and the others have not changed more than 0.2%.

There isn’t much news in terms of new unreleased phones coming from Microsoft, Samsung or HTC. However we see lots of phones running Windows 10 Mobile that fall into “Other” group in the previous charts. Here’s a raw and unfiltered (except for very obvious faulty data and duplicates) list of such phones. We didn’t try to make anything out of it and leave this exercise to journalists and other curious minds.
