The ZIFF Festival of the Dhow Countries is organized by ZIFF, a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 1998 in Zanzibar to promote and showcase the culture of the Dhow Countries.

Throughout the 9 day festival, and in fact, throughout the year, ZIFF has a range of programmes that sponsors can support individually, or through general support of the festival itself.

From the absolutely breath-taking venue of the Old Fort Ampitheatre where nightly outdoor film screenings take place, to the various other screening venues, ZIFF is primarily about films. With an average of 70 – 80 films on show, all competing in various categories judged by experts from across the globe, ZIFF is a film-lovers feast.

A recent focus is on Bongo Movies – East Africa’s answer to the Nollywood phenomenon, with ZIFF presenting a specialized screening programme and awards category for the emerging genre.

Nightly performances feature artists from across the continent in the secure and welcoming

outdoor venue of the Mambo Club, adjacent to the Ampitheatre in the Old Fort building.

For many years ZIFF has ensured outreach beyond Stone Town and engaged with various communities across Zanzibar and neighboring Pemba.

The Village Panorama works with local communities to bring the festival activity to over 200,000 people in at least 40 rural villages (organized in clusters) across the Zanzibar Islands.

The Children’s Panorama is also an integral part of the festival. It addresses the needs and issues of the youth in a friendly, fun and educative manner.

The Women’s Panorama provides a dynamic space for women and their concerns encouraging a broader perception and participation in crucial gender issues.

Every year ZIFF also plays host to a number of workshops and conferences that solidify its reputation as an arts & culture hub for the continent. From The Arterial Network and the MAISHA Film Lab, to the African Film Development Association and the Tanzanian Media Forum – a range of partner organisations use ZIFF as the occasion for major meetings and events

Additionally, ZIFF hosts various cultural, visual arts and performance events that round out the 9 days of celebration. These events surround the core film screenings to create an inclusive, warm and truly Zanzibarian event.

• Opening Parade: Usually in conjunction with the Women’s Panorama and including hundreds of people from even the most remote villages in Zanzibar • Dhow Race: The Stone Town beachfront comes alive with a traditional dhow race and live entertainment on the festival’s opening weekend. • Foradani Gardens Programme: The heart of Stone Town, just in front of the Old Fort is where everyone comes in the evenings to meet, eat and socialize

Every year a variety of media partners come on board to support the festival, with ZIFF’s foundation Sponsor ZUKU, East Africa’s largest digital and cable TV provider running TV promos across its channels in the months leading up to festival.

Additionally in 2015, Tanzanian media house Clouds FM and Clouds TV joined ZIFF as media partners alongside Screen Africa magazine, Africa’s largest film and TV industry publication.

SPONSOR RIGHTS, BENEFITS & MARKETING OPPORTUNITIESSponsorship of ZIFF brings a range of branded marketing, publicity and outreach opportunities. Sponsors are able to be part of the largest and most important cultural event in East Africa.

Associated Sponsor: Associated Sponsors will be considered as Associated Sponsors and receive maximum association, publicity, branding, and hosting rights at the festival. MAXIMUM 2 Package Cost: USD100,000.00 and up per annum.

Partner Sponsors: Supporting Sponsors will still receive major branding exposure through the main event and related publicity. MAXIMUM 5 Package Cost: USD50,000.00

Supporting Sponsors: This opportunity for smaller or regional brands still assures association to the festival with limited branding and publicity. Bronze Sponsors are still able to secure a presence at the major festival events.MAXIMUM 15 Package cost: Cash or in-kind trade USD20,000.00
