LEttEr FrOM thE ExECutivE DirECtOrthe 2015-16 season of music flows from traditional roots to rock ‘n’ roll; from freedom songs to jazz, and many styles in between. the theme of the tribeca Dance event (“forgiveness” by B3W) focuses on social issues that have become mainstream topics by presidential candidates of 2016. our young audiences will be reacquainted with traditional characters like Peter rabbit, alice in Wonderland and Charlotte, as well as our old time favorite Dr. seuss. in addition, we have acrobats from China to entertain all ages. We welcome back returning friends and patrons, and for you newcomers, thanks for including tribeca PaC as one of your entertainment venues.

the season opens with the national Circus & acrobats of China performing “Peking Dreams”. the acts in the show include contortionists and juggling, to name a few. the company has won over twenty gold and silver medals and various other awards. no one is too young or too old to enjoy this group!

tribeca spotlight: the next Voice You Hear features David gonzalez with “City of Dreams” featuring the Poetic License Band. David has performed for our schooltime program in the past and we are so pleased to include him in our spotlight program with this show where spoken word meets Latin jazz. the grip Weeds, known as a Psychedelic rock/Power Pop quartet, and the Christine spero Group, whose performance will be a tribute to rock ‘n’ roll from the 1960s and 1970s, will bring back the nostalgia from that era.

the Jazz programs will continue with the Lost Jazz shrines concert musically directed by Bob stewart. the show will celebrate sweet Basil, formerly located on 88 seventh avenue at Bleecker st. it opened in January 1975 by Horst Liepolt and Mel Litoff and flourished throughout the 1980s. Musicians such as Ron Carter, Junior Mance, Pharoah sanders, Doc Cheatham and Lester Bowie have played at sweet Basil. the performance will feature the music of trumpet player Lester Bowie, a native of st. Louis, Mo. He is a musician steeped in several genres of the black experience, gospel, blues, r&B and jazz.

our Dance series is a collaboration between the dance company Beyond third Wave (B3W), composer Daniel Bernard roumain, and writers todd Craig and sarita Covington. the production, “forgiveness”, features personal stories on social injustice.

Make us your entertainment destination. Visit our web site, www.tribecapac.org for more details and other events.

Way back in the 1930s the Hollywood musical had already become a well-established genre. But not every filmmaker has

respected genre boundaries. We’ll watch scenes from films that may or may not be called musicals, but all have striking moments

that parody and/or pay conflicted tribute to the musical. Films include The Big Lebowski, The 5000 Fingers of Doctor T, Idlewild,

Dancer in the Dark, Dirty Dancing, and Pennies from Heaven.

LADiEs siNg thE BLuEstuesday, April 5 at 7:30PM – FrEE

The first great blues artist to appear on film was Bessie Smith. Many female singers have followed her in bringing a unique

artistry to the performance of the blues. We will look at great blues singing by Billie Holiday, sarah Vaughan, ella fitzgerald, Betty

Carter, abbey Lincoln, anita o’Day, and a few surprises.
