Would you walk up to a stranger & say
“Hi. My name is Amy. Buy my
stuff”?
No.Why?
Because that’s weird.
Not only is it weird, it’s just not effective.
People buy when they
know, like & trust you.
People buy on emotion,
not logic.
People don’t buy when you
are being weird.
Stop thinking “If I tweet it, they will buy
it.”
Stop selling & start being
social.
Social media is SOCIAL.
When did we forget the
SOCIAL part?
Oh yeah, it’s when the ad men took over & the “gurus” popped
up.
When a communication
vehicle becomes successful, we
develop marketing tactics around it.
It’s the natural evolution of
communication.
NO WAY! A machine in my
house that lets me talk to anyone at
anytime!?!?
That’s awesome, right?
Then guess what happened.
Marketers realized they could cold
call people & sell effectively &
cheaply.
Now we have robocalls.
Who likes talking to robots?
No one.Now we have “Do not Call” lists & laws.
Remember getting your first email account?
Why have email when
you have the phone & fax?
Once we got how powerful & convenient instantaneous written communication was,
we were hooked.
Marketers realized they could effectively
& cheaply email thousands of people
at a time.
Now we have spam.
And today we have sophisticated spam filters because our inboxes are full of marketing emails.
Can you see a pattern here?
Now we’re in the social
media age.
Problem is, social media doesn’t work like the
phone or email.
Why?Because social
media is SOCIAL.
Can you grow your business & sell in social
media?
Absolutely! But only by
being social.
When the “gurus” chatter on about
social media, they are not actually talking about social media.
They are actually talking
about social ADVERTISING.
Social media, social marketing
& social advertising are 3 different things.
