Ever wonder how Apple and Google rank and sort results to app store search? While nobody outside of Apple and Google really knows the magic formula, which always changing anyway, we have developed a good idea of the important parameters from working on hundreds of apps. In our experience the rankings are predictable and usually logical. Good developers and publishers, who engage in diligent tracking and optimization, are able to influence how their app ranks in relevant searches. The important thing to realize is that Apple and Google are very different in the way they handle search. Google is a search company at its core and has developed an amazing, and often scary, ability to figure out what you seek. Apple, which is good at many things, is not great at search. So here is a quick looks about what drives search results and ranking in each of the two major app stores:
