It is not the most exciting chore around the house, but a necessary one for many people. Ironing…you either love it or hate it. Some prefer just to have their dress clothes taken to the cleaners and not mess with ironing themselves, but for those of us who iron at home, there are some tips to making the chore much simpler.

Ironing actually starts in the clothes dryer. A lot of

time and effort can be saved if the clothes to be

ironed are cycled properly through the dryer.

When removing the wet clothes from the washing machine give the item a good shake out or snap in order to release some of the wrinkles put there by the washer. Then place the wet items into the dryer.

Let the clothes dry for a few minutes leaving them damp when removing them from the dryer. One at a time take the damp clothing piece and hang it on a hanger as it would normally hang in the closet.

Hang the clothes on the shower bar or other area where the air can circulate around them, and do not hang them in the closet yet. By allowing the clothes to hang while damp, the wrinkles will tend to continue to release and the garment may not even need ironing after this step.

If the item still needs some ironing be sure to start with a good ironing surface. A wider board may be helpful for ironing larger pieces of clothes. Set the iron to the correct temperature for each garment.

It is best to iron and then push the item away from you. If you pull the item toward you when ironing, then the places already pressed will gather more wrinkles as the item come close to you. Ironing does not have to be a difficult chore, boring maybe, but not difficult.
