News Analysis

•As per ProjectsToday, 621 new projects, entailing an investment of Rs 23,429 crore,were announced in the month of November 2013.

•Indian Government agencies were at the forefront, accounting for a whopping 84.88 per cent of the total fresh investment announced in the month.

•Central government agencies accounted for 29 new projects worth Rs 9,870 crore,while State government agencies accounted for a majority share of 431 new projectsworth Rs 10,017 crore

•A Rs 625 crore ‘Srijan Industrial Logistic Park’ project of Srijan Projects in Howrahdistrict of West Bengal was the lone mega project announced in the private sector. The park will spread across 24 acre of land and will cater to the garment and packaging industries.

• 83 new projects worth Rs 3,917 crore were announced in the Manufacturing sector. A Rs 1,400 crore rail coach factory at Srinivaspur in Kolar district of Karnataka by South Western Railway was the most notable project in the sector.

• Other projects announced in the sector include, Rs 300 crore Cotton Yarn project announced by Sri Basava Textiles in Belgaum district of Karnataka and Rs 180 crore Wire Rods project by Mukand Sumi Metal Processing at Satara district.

• The irrigation sector attracted investment of Rs 2,186 crore in the form of eight projects. A bulk of that investment was owing to the Rs 2,153 crore restoration of Western Gandak canal system project in coming up Bihar and being executed by Water Resources Department.

• Among the states, Bihar topped the investment chart with 16 projects worth Rs 3,142 crore, while Odisha attracted the highest number of new projects – 141 projects worth Rs 2,912 crore. Of the 141 projects, 93 were for setting up bridges by Rural Development department, Odisha.

• Power sector saw a huge drop as compared to October 2013.

• As against the 19 power projects and 23 power distribution projects worth Rs 5,038 crore announced in last month, only seven new power projects and 15 new power distribution projects worth Rs 441.16 crore were announced in November.

• The Rs 240 crore investment came from four solar power projects, having a combined capacity of 27 MW.
