In Kerrang!, the dominant image typically takes up a full page. The shot is either a mid-shot or a medium close-up. If the person in the image is looking directly at the camera, then they either have a seductive facial expression or an invitational one. If the person is looking away from the camera then they typically have a chocolate box expression or a catalogue one. If there is more than one person in the image, then one person will be at the front, with the others placed behind them. They will have different facial expressions and will be looking in different directions.

In Metal Hammer, the dominant image normally takes up a full page. The shot is usually a mid-shot or a medium close-up, and it is at eye-level. The person in the image is looking directly at the reader, and their facial expression is either comic, seductive, or catalogue.

In my own magazine, I will have the dominant image taking up the page opposite to the article. The shot will be a mid-shot and the model will be looking directly at the reader to draw them in. The image will be at eye-level and their facial expression will be invitational. The lighting will be natural.
