DESCRIPTION
LinkedIn is often pigeon-holed as simply the place to go to look for your next job. Certainly it is used extensively by recruitment consultants the world over to find and approach candidates. But to simply look at it this way is to do the network a significant disservice. I created this unique two-workshop series so you can learn how to create a stunning LinkedIn profile and also capture real sales leads!

You Can’t Afford Not to Pay

1. Upload a Decent Profile
Picture
Your LinkedIn profile photo sets the tone for everything else a viewer will experience on your page — just like match.com or Instagram. Except LinkedIn isn’t match.com or Instagram. It’s the world’s largest professional network.
So that means:• No blurry photos• No photos of you cropped out of a group shot• No photos of you at a ball park (unless you’re gunning to work for one)• No avatars• And for goodness sake, no selfies!

2. Your Headline = You, NOT
Your Job
The headline of your LinkedIn
profile is highly searchable. I
know that no one on LinkedIn is
looking for “President of Your
Social Media Mentor.” So I list
something more search-friendly
that speaks of what I do on a
daily basis — and for which
people may want to hire me.
“Social Media Strategist that
specializes in Facebook,
Marketing” paints a much better
picture of who I am and how I
can help potential clients.

3. Write a Killer Summary!
Whatever you do, don’t leave the
summary blank or limit it to a few
bland sentences. This is your
chance to be creative and
describe who you are and what
you’re passionate about.
Make it personal, while also
highlighting key
accomplishments you don’t want
anyone to miss.
Thanks toLinkedInsights for
sharing some great examples,
including Paul H. Simon’s
summary

4. Use the Power of
Endorsements
Pay attention to your
endorsed skills. This can
lend credibility to you.
Second, this part can also
be searched for. If you have
unique skills or technical
abilities, you should list
them here. This will let
people looking to work with
you find you.
Adding information here is
like doing a bit of SEO for
yourself!
Tip: If someone endorses
you for one of your key
skills, endorse them back
for one of theirs. Social
Media Etiquette 101

5. Build a Multimedia Profile
Most profiles on LinkedIn are
just plain text – how boring is
that? Build a visual profile
and you’ll instantly stand out.
This LinkedIn feature (called
“Professional Portfolio”)
allows you to share
presentations, photos,
videos, links, PDFs, and
more. So use it to your
advantage and show off your
creative work!

Showcase Your Value via
Recommendations
Get some high quality
recommendations – especially
from existing happy customers
(quality is better than quantity).
This will give visitors a better
idea of what you’re like as a
person. After all, even in B2B,
people still buy from people.
But don’t rely on LinkedIn to do
the asking for you with their
recommendations request
feature. Ask in person or to
write a personal email sincerely
expressing what their
recommendation would mean
to you.

Get Active & Position Yourself
as an Expert
Get Active & Position Yourself as an Expert
Start posting/sharing articles, blogs, videos etc…you find interesting. Your connections
will see how you are keeping abreast of the latest news within your field.
@vanessacabrera #yoursmm
Join & Get Active Within
LinkedIn Groups
@vanessacabrera #yoursmm
This is where you
Network!
The groups you join also
let others know your
business interests which
allows for a possible
intro.
Continue positioning
yourself as an expert
within groups.
Ask for help and help
others in return – they’ll
remember the favor!
Publish Your Expertise
@vanessacabrera #yoursmm
This feature used to be exclusive, but has
opened up to all members.
Publisher lets you share your thoughts and
expertise with your connections and followers
in a long-form format, rather than a short post
on your profile that can be looked at and
forgotten very quickly.
Publisher provides you with a venue to get
more in-depth with your “professional”
thoughts, and because it is searchable, on
and off LinkedIn, it can help you expand your
network. People who aren’t connected with
you can choose to follow you and be updated
whenever you publish again.
On top of all of that, Publisher offers the ability
to manage comments, edit and delete posts,
view stats, and tag. There are lots of features
to take advantage of here.
@vanessacabrera #yoursmm
BONUS TIP!
Make sure you include
current links to your
company site, your
Twitter account and
Facebook page, any of
your social sites.
I find that a significant
number of people who
check out my LinkedIn
profile go on to follow
me on Twitter!

Use the LinkedIn App
We’re living in a world where
there is an app for everything,
so why not make use of
LinkedIn’s app? LinkedIn says
you are more likely to get 6
times more profile views, and 7
times more endorsements if
you use the app.
The Connected App is a good
way to take LinkedIn on the go
— you can look at news, jobs,
information about colleagues
and clients, and even work
anniversaries… you never
know when that might be
useful!
