The story is based on how they have taken special time to make sure each song has meaning to produce an exciting new album. Therefore the purpose of the text is to inform the reader about the new album is going to be the best one yet and also to hint about tours in the near future. The article is chatty as they have a laugh about how they are ususally on a tight time schedule to produce albums and then go onto tour. Also Gerhard says that hes glad it took longer and went through each individual song over again. Also the article talks about how it took a while to figure out ‘what they were going to do this time’ he says while laughing shows that he is now calm about the situation. There is a range of sentences used in the article from long sentences with a lot of explanation such as there are many of tmes we had to move on our feet quickly and say no the albums taking a turn and we need to accept it because if we fight it will end up with a record that doesn’t make any sense. Yet they use shorter sentenes to catch peoples attention such as ‘oh its flithy’ this would attract some readers. Ellipsis (we’re being the best mcr we can be) The we’re iis shortened for we are and also the mcr is shortened for my chemical romance. Words in the article that are used such as ‘emo superstars’ ‘front man’ ‘spotlight’ ‘game plan’ all stand out because it shows that genre the band are and spotlight suggests that the new album is going to make them the next hit. ‘We’re being the best mcr we can be’ shows the band is joking saying that this new album is going to be the best yet and therefore the language is used informal. This may attract the audience and fans to the article because it shows that they are a fun confident band and also hints to a new album being released soon and possibly tours as to be the best they would need to improve on what they already have done.

In the terminal optical area there is small images related to the band in the recording room. From this we can get a small insight to their new album. In the primary optical area there is a small black box with bold red writing which says ‘NEWS’ in capitals this would attract the reader as it stands out from the rest of the article and also because people like to find out new interesting information also in this area next to the news sign there is a small header which says ‘world exclusive’ this would also attract the reader and fans because they would want to find out the information before anyone else and latest updates. In the strong fellow area this is where all the main text is based such as the article and extra information on the side this makes it clear to the reader where the text begins and how to follow it the pictures also surround the text which makes it easier to see. In the weak fallow area there is just more images of the band/ main singer to make it clear on whop the article is about. It also keeps the viewer interested visually as people like to look at images of their favourite bands to either value their looks or to admire their talent, no one likes to read a page full of text as it looks dull and boring.

Main Image

The image has been manipulated to black and white this connotes the punk/rock genre of the band such as the stereotypical red/black colours. The image also backs up the article which talks about behind the scenes with My Chemical Romance. The main large image is off the lead singer, all of the images are taken at their concerts and in studio practice, this draws the reader to the image as it is a good insight to see how they are live and may draw the reader to the article from following the images therefore the main image creates a sense of direction between both pages. The main image implies that he is the main focal point as he has a page of the magazine to himself whereas the other band members only have a small proportion of the page this may because he is the lead singer he would be the most recognized. ‘We’re being the best MCR we can be’ shows to the audience that they keep improving their music. It also shows that the band is working hard for their fans. The ‘mcr’ shows that the band are already big in the music industry because they have shortened their name from ‘my chemical romance’ this shows that they are already recognized and popular as they don’t need their name to be noticed. The way that ‘the best mcr’ is in white compared to the rest of the headline being in red writing is a well recognizable indication on who the article is going to be about.

House Style

The font that is used is a standard plain font to make it easy for the reader to read and it has been set into columns to make it easy for the reader to follow the article. The font that is used in the headline is generally used on the front cover and in the contents page of the magazine. This font looks old and torn which expresses the band genre well as the genre is rock. Also the article starts with a large letter M to make it clear to the reader where the article begins it also makes the article stand out and to attract the reader. The layout of the magazine is informal as on one side you have the lead singer of the band this makes it clear to the audience and fans what the article is going to be about. On the right side of the page this is where all of the text is about the article with the main text in the middle of the page which is surrounded by pictures and quotations of the band to make it clear who the article is going to be about. On the right next to the text there is a small column about new tracks this will attract fans as they would want to know about the new album and exclusive information about the new tracks. The colour scheme is red, white and black this fits the bands style and represents the genre of their music well. On the left hand side at the top of the page this is the only writing on this page there is a small text box that says ‘NEWS’ and besides this says ‘world exclusive’ this is written in a red styled film strip in bold capital white writing this makes it stand out to readers and fans. Also the images blend into the black background which makes the red and white writing stand out and makes it more recognizable s.
