For the masthead of my magazine I used a font called “Bebas”, I used this as I believed that it was a bold striking font in which would grab the audience’s attention and make them want to look further into the magazine. The font was already installed onto Photoshop by another student which obviously means that it is a popular font. For the masthead of my magazine I used a font called “Bebas”, I used this as I believed that it was a bold striking font in which would grab the audience’s attention and make them want to look further into the magazine. The font was already installed onto Photoshop by another student which obviously means that it is a popular font. I believed that this font was a typical convention from what I have seen on real life magazines which are sold in shops. I chose the name, “Phraze” for my magazine as I found that it was quite a catchy, short name and would stand out to the audience. The font I used for my masthead is similar to mastheads that I have seen on magazines in the magazine market such as, “surface”, “NME” and “FADED”. My masthead is on a higher layer than the plain white background and is the highest piece of the page, this makes the cover simplistic and bold which fits my target audience quite well

The graphology of my front cover is very simplistic and bold, I have only used a total of eight word (including title). I only used two types of fonts throughout my whole magazine, these fonts were, “bebas” and “Baskerville BT”. The reason why I only chose two different fonts is because I like the simplicity and I thought that the whole magazine would look cluttered if there were too many different fonts. The whole theme of my magazine is to be simplistic and bold, this is why I only used a total of eight words on the main cover, the use of little amounts of words gives the cover a basic, bold feel to it, which is the look that I am going for as it fits in quite well with my target audience. I used the font “bebas” for all of the titles throughout my magazine as I believe that it is quite a strong, bold font which is easy to read and see. I used the only other font, “Baskerville BT” for the articles and quotes that I inserted into my double page spread; I also used this font for the issue name, the price of the magazine and the date and issue number. i think that both of these fonts stand out very well against the plain white background as I have used monotone colours for all of the text throughout the magazine.

The white colour was the most powerful and background colour to use behind all of the text and pictures. The important text really attracts the attention of potential customers as the colour of the background contrasts against the colour of the text. I chose the sizing of my texts Depending on importance of it being seen at first site. Such as the largest text on my page is the Masthead (Magazine Name) as it is the branding/labeling of my magazine product, secondly the name of the main artist which will be featured in my double page spread. The page layout of my front cover was inspired by the magazine “surface” and I chose this layout as I thought that it was the most simplistic and bold layout. The bar code is underneath the main title on the front cover, I chose the bar code to be a skinny barcode, as it fitted perfectly in the space I had available. The inspiration I took from surface magazine fit my product type, which is to be sold. The layout of My magazine is also similar to ‘surface magazine’ using some conventions such as having my masthead as the largest text on the page and placing it in a bold font at the top of the page. I also decided to keep my magazine very simple and basic like other magazines in the market, ensuring that there is not too much on the page, this is fitting the interests of my target audience, as they like things simple and alternative.

My music artist ‘Cole Crescent’ was styled in a variety of clothing during the photo shoots for my magazine cover and double page spread, on the pages I have made the model wear quite neutral colours for the cover and double page spread for example, he is wearing a desert tanned plain t-shirt, against an off white background which gives the whole picture a simplistic view. Previously during the modeling shots my artist was styled in a selection of different clothing including bomber jackets, jumpers and plain t-shirts, all of which are coloured in neutral shades. This instantly made the model look simplistic and certainly stand out to the audience. These types of clothing are the type of clothing you would find in a vintage or a modern shop. I am using the conventions of real media products as my artist looks and fits the style/genre of my magazine in which I am producing (Indie/alternative), the model does not look out of place and fake on my magazine cover. The genre of my magazine easily suggests through my front page, contents and double page spread, as I continued throughout the pages to stick to a monotone.
