Simon PR Corporate Social Responsibility Success Stories

Shire’s Great Food Fight! Simon PR helped create this award-winning community relations program, including program design, school recruitment and engagement, employee communications and media relations. In just two weeks, 25 high schools collected 64 tons of food—160 percent of the goal.

Philadelphia Education Fund (PED) Shire engaged Simon PR to support the PED’s annual Eddy Awards. A front page feature story in The Philadelphia Inquirer about the student awardee increased PED donations and motivated readers to donate college funds for the inspiring young man.

Shire’s Big Give This six-year-old regional collection drive benefitting Cradles to Crayons continues to capture media attention with new story angles, including a focus on employee volunteers in 2013.

FMC’s “Teaching the Science of Curiosity” The award-winning program positioned FMC as a good corporate citizen, built relationships with City leaders and engaged 100 employees in a collection drive for Philadelphia School District science teachers. It generated 4 million media impressions, including a photo in Times Square.

Dow Gives Simon PR’s creative kick-off for an exercise-centered school playground grant put Dow in the spotlight in Delaware, home to one of its key manufacturing sites.

PNC Arts Alive The launch of this signature grant-making program in Philadelphia was so successful that it expanded to two other PNC markets. Outstanding brand exposure, including extensive earned media results, was a key reason. In 2013, PNC was named one of the BCA 10: Best Businesses Partnering with the Arts in America.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Great Food Fight is an annual competition where high schools go to the mats with the goal of collecting the most food. The goal this year is to collect 100 tons of food – or 200,000 meals by March 8th.

“We had boxes and boxes stacked together and the elementary schools just started shipping it in.”

Fifteen-year-old Shannon Kolb is a 10th grader at Owen J Roberts High School in Chester County. Her school won the grand prize of $10,000 last year.

“We raised, I believe it was 11 tons.”

“We collected five tons of food last year and we’re looking to double that and get 12 tons this year.”

Kids get fit at Newark Charter's new fitness park

Watch the video of this story

Recess just got a lot more fun for students at Newark Charter School. They've got a brand new outdoor fitness park that phys. ed. teacher Karen Manniso says they just love. Karen Manniso: "Every day at recess, you will see there is a line for each challenge; there is a line, waiting to be used."

The park was made possible through a $30,000 grant from DowGives to help combat child obesity. The kids can do everything from crunches, walk on the balance beam, some pull ups, or even play basketball. Esther Jackson is the school's Dean of Instruction. Esther Jackson: "If the kids want to do some crunches, they've got a bench out there. They couldn't do that before unless they laid on the ground and that wasn't too exciting," she laughs. Manniso: "They can do circuits, which is small groups, and something new and exciting; they love it." Peter Freeman with Dow Chemical Company says the kids are excited about physical fitness – unlike in his younger days. Peter Freeman: "When I was at this age, pull ups for me were the miserable Presidents' fitness test, and these kids were standing in line to do pull ups. It was just awesome."

Walking the balance beam.
