AVOID BAD
COPYWRITING
NEURONIMBUS SOFTWARE SERVICES P. LTD
Do you think people read all those support emails, FAQs, website copies,
etc?
NO!!!
The attention span of readers has gone down from 12 seconds in the
year 2000 to 8 seconds in 2013. Moreover, only 28% of text on
throughout the web pages is read by an average internet user.
Your copy is useless for any internet user if it doesn’t make their lives
better. In more than one way, it is an insult!
Let’s look at some pointers to be kept in mind while
copywriting for any given product / service webpage!
1. Be your own
Advertising Agency
Just like an advertising agency, learn how to
convince a consumer to buy.
Bring the UX copywriting in the same manner and
you’re halfway through your journey of writing a
blockbuster copy.
2. K.I.S.S
Since we only have 8 seconds of our users’ attention,
long sentences is what we should not be focusing
upon.
Also. Simpler words are easier to read and
understand, since your audience might not below to
an advanced reading level.
Never expect your audience to reach you. Rather
meet them where they belong.
3. Use your speaker’s
language.
Don’t be afraid to use certain jargons that your
audience is familiar with.
A thumb rule would be to avoid internal words and
technical jargons.
What you write might be not be crystal clear to any
common user, apart from your colleagues.
4. “Why” goes along with
“What”.
Although a call-to-action like “REGISTER” just
serves the purpose, giving out a reason for acting
upon an instruction would only take you a few extra
miles away.
You must allow your audience to envisage the
advantage of their action. Because only then, they
are more likely to do it.
5. Bullet Points Are A
Must.
Bullet lists make the reading process easier.
Bullet points create a sense of attraction.
Bullet points are fun to read.
Bullet points “break” monotony.
6. Don’t Forget To Enjoy!
Humor bridges the gap between a boring website and a
viral website.
Take liberty with an image or idea to let your audience
enjoy reading your content. The more interactive it is, the
better would the reader ratio.
Also, never use a passive voice while you’re trying to
create fun in your content. Citing hypothetical examples
to your funny story won’t harm either ;)
If, after all of these tips, you still doubt the copy
you have written, run it through someone not in
the same industry and take note of their
feedback.
Re-write your copy if needed and voila! You’re
all set to deliver your audience with some
extremely well put up copy!
