8 Smart Ways To Build Natural Backlinks To Your Blog!

!One of the many questions I get asked frequently is, how do you build natural backlinks to your blog that Google will love? Before I dive into the 8 methods that I use to build links to my blog, let me just briefly explain to you about link structures and what is natural linking in my understanding.!!The days of flooding your blog with excessive exact match anchor text links to improve search engine rankings are truly gone, these days doing just that will get your penalised without a doubt. Personally myself I don’t use exact match anchor text links when building backlinks to my blog, I don’t do it just to be on the safe side of things.!

!So when building natural links, you need to use a variety in the types of links you use. In other words you need to diversify. Take a look at what I mean below:!!• Exact match anchor (Use sparingly if at all, seriously folks!)!

• Linking with your name / brand title, for example ‘Fabrizio’ being my name or ‘Magnet4Blogging’ being my brand.!

• Linking with generic keywords, such as ‘Click Here’, ‘Read More’, ‘Learn More’ ‘Visit This Blog’ ‘Go Here’ etc.!

• Linking with your blog’s naked URL, including and excluding the http:// and www. prefix’s and forward slashes.!

• Using brand and keyword anchors, for example “Magnet4Blogging’s eBook Creation Guide” or “Link Building Tips By Magnet4Blogging”.!!Right, now that you have seen some mild examples of natural linking, let’s take a look at the 8 ways to build natural backlinks to your blog. Chances are you’re probably already doing most of these, if not then you’ve learnt something new here and I’m happy.!!1. Social bookmarking - Social bookmarking is far from dead,

there are some great sites you can still use to gain valuable links to your blog. I still submit to sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit and more recently Pinterest.!

2. Guest blogging - Whilst guest blogging is no longer as effective as it used to be for for building SEO links (read this post by Matt Cutts), you can still use guest blogging to safely promote your brand and display your authority in your niche. If you’re going to link back to your blog or specific pages/posts, ensure you’re linking using the naked URL of your blog in the author box, or use one of the other types link links mentioned above.!

3. Curating content - There are some great sites that you can use to curate quality and useful content, whilst adding links from your own blog too. Sites like scoop.it and paper.li are perfect for doing just that. On scoop.it for example, I love to find topics related to my niche and suggest a few links from my blog to the topic. They’re not always accepted, but if they are, that’s some extra valuable links.!

4. Slide presentations - Slide presentations like the one you’re viewing here on SlideShare are very powerful and great for building backlinks and generating a ton of traffic to your blog, especially if the Slide or presentation you’re creating is a well thought out one. My favourite thing to do with SlideShare is to create unique PDF documents, and link them back to articles on my blog.!

5. PDF distribution - eBooks and PDF guides containing links to your blog articles as resource is another great way to build quality links to your blog. If you want to monitor the traffic

generated from links within your PDF’s, consider using Google’s link shortening tool. You can distribute your PDF’s on your site, on SlideShare as I mentioned above and many more other places. If you upload it to your blog for example, you can then share the link to the PDF file itself to other sites, like Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn. If you don’t have a PDF guide or eBook to offer and would like to create one, check out this post I wrote showing you how.!

6. Blog commenting - Once again, blog commenting isn’t the best way by far to build links to your blog, however it is a great way to connect with other bloggers, add value to an article and demonstrate your authority once again, especially if you leave useful and problem solving comments on other blogs. The links although doesn’t add much weight in terms of quality, can be seen as a side effect of leaving useful comments.!

7. Video marketing and YouTube - YouTube is a must use platform for promoting content and building valuable backlinks. Consider turning some of your blog articles or tutorials into videos and uploading them to YouTube, Vimeo or even Facebook. You can then link back to the original article on your blog from each of these platforms. SlideShare and YouTube are my two most favourite content marketing platforms.!

8. Create epic content on your blog - Finally we get to my all time favourite method for building natural backlinks, and that’s through blogging! That’s right consistently creating epic,

problem solving content on your blog will get you noticed, and as a result people will link back to your awesome posts because of it. I wrote a detailed post outlining how I use this strategy here.!
