Defined good #tags in your description

Copyright Guy R Thackray 2014

Twoater > Me > My Details > #tags to help people find you

The purpose of the #tag is to help people find you. Imagine someone is sailing up the coast near you and they have a boat issue they need to resolve. And it just so happens you have the same boat as them and, if they can find you, you could help them resolve the problem in some way. If they can’t find you then you can’t help them.

Examples of useful #tags to describe yourself (assume I have a 40ft Swan and I am based in Palma, Majorca) :• #swan #swan40 #palma #majorca #liveaboard #yachtmaster #sail #sailboat• OR #novice #beginner (if just starting) • Other ideas to get you going :

#lookingforcrew #availableforwork #boatchef #experiencedcrew #helmsman#charter #yachtcharter #boatrental #daytripper #boozecruise #partyboat#forsale #sell #boatforsale #luxurymotoryacht #sailinginstructor #restaurant #bar #supermarket #delivery #deliverytoboat#boatcleaning #boatmaintenance #sails #sailrepair #mechanicalrepairs

Click on #? To see the #tags that have been defined so far (you can copy and paste from this list)

Setup location services ?

Copyright Guy R Thackray 2014

iPhone > Settings > Privacy > Location Services

Twoater is all about sharing information across the boating community.

Location is key to this. If you raise a Twoat message in a beautiful bay, but do not share the location (by having Location Services On) then anyone that reads the Twoat will not know where the beautiful bay was and how to get there.

However if Location Services is On and you chose to display the location information associated with the Twoat message then other people can find the Twoat and then navigate to it.

We STRONGLY request that you turn Location Services ON for Twoater, you can then restrict location information later, from within Twoater, if you wish.

Also : this needs to be ON if you want to send out an SOS / PAN-PAN with location automatically populated.

Setup your privacy appropriately ?

Copyright Guy R Thackray 2014

Twoater > Me > Privacy

Twoater is all about sharing information across the boating community.

You are totally anonymous. People know nothing about you other than what you put into My Details.

If you make yourself Visible this means that we show other people your last known location. So you might want to turn this on only when you are at sea.

By making yourself Visible people :- will be able to find you when they need help- also, when you raise a new Twoat we default it to ‘Show the

location of the Twoat’ otherwise we do the opposite.

Create your first Twoat

Twoater > Twoats > +

A Twoat is a message to one person or everyone.

To send a Twoat to one person include their @twoaterID somewhere in the message. Eg. Hi @Hook, where are you ?

If a Twoat message has useful information in it, then tag the useful information by putting a # sign in front of the word.Eg. Found a great sail repair guy in Palma, Majorca. Just behind the shower block. (This Twoat has great info but it will not be easily found.)

This is much more useful : Found a great #sail #repair #sailrepair guy in #Palma, #Majorca. Just behind the shower block.

To make it private set Private to ON (Green).

PLEASE ‘Allow others to see where the Twoat was raised’ – this makes it far more useful to others in the area.

Understood Notifications

iPhone > Settings > Notification Center

If you have Notifications ON, when you receive one your phone makes a little ping noise and if you look at your screen you will see the message attached to the Notification.

Twoater sends notifications in the following ways :- If a person sends you a private Twoat- If a person Replies to a Twoat that you sent to them- If a person sends out an SOS or PAN-PAN within your area- If Twoater wants to send you an important message

We strongly recommend that you turn Notifications ON for Twoater.

Understood #tags

Copyright Guy R Thackray 2014

A #tag is just a simple way to make a piece of information searchable. Key to using Twoater to your benefit and the benefit of others.

Eg. If you write the Twoat message “There was a large swell coming into Mahon”, this is useful information to someone else. But how are they going to find it ?

Put yourself in the shoes of another person approaching Mahon. What is the important information in this message and do I actually need to add extra information ? Eg. This could be re-written as :

“There was a large #swell coming into #Mahon #majorca #seastate #approach”

So I just put some # signs before the words swell and Mahon (turning them into #tags) and added 3 more #tags that make this message even more useful.

Now, a person can easily create different searches to find this Twoat. Eg. - Find all Twoats Around Me (assuming they are approaching Mahon) with the #tag

#seastate (works only if you set the ‘Allow others to see this Twoat location’ to ON)- Find all Twoats with the #tag #mahon- And so on…

Understood Advanced Search

Copyright Guy R Thackray 2014

Twoater > Advanced Search

Search gives you the ability to get the information that you need, when you need it and where you need it.

The screen shot on the right shows you the high level overview of a search that comes as default with Twoater.

It is called All30Days, lists all Twoats, raised in the last 26 days and listed from the most recent Twoat raised.

You can change this search, rename it, restrict which #tags you see, exclude Twoats from categories of Twoater, and much more.

You can save up to 9 different Twoat and 9 Twoater searches, at any point in time.

Eg. If I am sailing to Mahon today, with some stops along the way, I could build searches before setting off and then just pull them up as required.

Understood SOS/PAN-PAN setup

Copyright Guy R Thackray 2014

Twoater > Me > SOS / PAN-PAN

When you send and SOS or PAN-PAN, Twoater automatically populates as much data as possible for you, in the message that is sent out.Eg. The location you were in at the time you pressed the SOS button on the Twoat Detail screen.

It also pulls in the following ; Vessel Name & Vessel Type / Description, MMSI and Vessel Registration (if there is one) from the values you entered in your Me > SOS/PAN. So it is important that you enter these, to save time in a real emergency.

It also generates an SMS (if you have the extended pack) that is sent to your SOS Buddy. So it is important that you enter this information in your Settings as well, sot save time if an emergency arises.

So make sure you complete your SOS/PAN-PAN details when you sign up.
