Check out the WAISTLINES…!

On a Girdle

by Edmund Waller (1606-1687)

That which her slender waist confined

Shall now my joyful temples bind:

No monarch but would give his crown

His arms might do what this has done.

It was my Heaven's extremest sphere,

The pale which held that lovely deer:

My joy, my grief, my hope, my love

Did all within this circle move.

A narrow compass! and yet there

Dwelt all that's good, and all that's fair:

Give me but what this ribband bound,

Take all the rest the Sun goes round.

LINA CAVALIERI (Actress)

"The most beautiful lady in the beginning of the twentieth century." Her waist makes her

even more beautiful! My! Makes one wonder if a present-day minor celebrity were

tightlace in such a manner, would she be guaranteed to become a major celebrity (and start

a trend?)?

FAMOUS TIGHTLACER

Lillie Langtry (born Emilie LeBreton) was born in 1852 on the Isle of Jersey in

Britain. As a English actress, she was known for her great beauty, not the least of

which was derived from her diminutive waist. This wondrous figure, coupled with

her classic face, won her the admiration of millions, and the name, "Jersey Lily."

Lillie died in 1929, but not before she completed an illustrious career on the stage.

Well, now that it has come to an end,

I feel free to breathe at last---but first lets

Loosen those stays, shall we ?!?

---yes, let out that sigh of relief that

fashion & improvement in health

has evolved enough allow us to take deep

Breaths !!! Just for laughs!
