Stay Active
As you get older it’s important to continue exercising. While you probably can’t be as active as you were when you were 25years old, you can still engage in physical activity and see somebenefit. There are basically four types of exercises that you can do: aerobic, strength, flexibility, and balance.
Aerobic Exercises
Aerobic exercises get your heart pumping. Walking, jogging, and hiking are three examples. One of the best (and most fun) aerobic exercises is dancing. You can dance to your favorite songs in the privacy of your own home, oryou can visit a community center that offers dance classes.
Strength Exercises
Strength training will make your muscles stronger. When you start out it’s important to lift light. If you lift weights that are tooheavy, you risk seriously injuring yourself. The National Institute of Health’s Senior Health website is a great resourcefor senior exercise tips.
Flexibility andBalance Exercises
Before you engage in any exercise, it’s important to stretch.Flexibility is important because it can reduce the risk of injury you facefrom exercise.Yoga is a great activity that strengthens your balance. When working on your balance, remember to not push yourself too far. Goslowly, and you'll see lasting results in time.
