Says Kamran, “I was fascinated with Jacques Cousteau as a child and teenager. I devoured everything by him and about him that I could get my hands on. At first I was too young to understand what drew me to him. It was later that I knew I wanted to live with passion and adventure. I wanted to follow my beliefs, to teach, to inspire, to trail blaze. I wanted to leave the world with something more. Jacques Cousteau is the embodiment of how I want my life to be.”

“Jacques was always looking to the horizon, looking to see what’s coming, looking for solutions. That is very similar to my life as a CEO. Jacques set out to change the damage being done to our oceans. I’m looking to end damages caused by the side effects of prescription medications.”

This is an axiom Kamran and his business partners confronted head-on while building University General Hospital. Their physician-owned hospital and pharmacy concept was met with strong opposition, both from the American Hospital Association and large hospital systems. It was aggressively suggested that they were in it for self-gain through self-referral and that patient care would suffer. As well, that they would refuse care for the uninsured or underinsured.


“I know it sounds cliché,” says Kamran, “but many times in my life I have found myself asking ‘How would Jacques deal with this situation? Would he allow controversy to derail him from his goal? Would the Aqua-Lung exist had he walked away when faced with an impediment?’” Combatting the accusations and bureaucracy, Kamran and his partners ultimately saw their flagship University General Hospital - Fannin Street, open in in late 2006.


“It was an incredibly satisfying and rewarding moment for all of us. We knew our patients would receive the highest level of care and comfort in our luxury hospital. For me, my dream had come true. I had created a ground-breaking healthcare island that would aid, and hopefully inspire, many people. Our doors were open to everyone.”, states Kamran.


Like Jacques, Kamran is benefiting the world, but through revolutionary medicine in place of environmental conservation.


As a pioneer of gene-specific compounded prescription medication, Kamran, the Founder, Chairman, and Chief Business Development Officer of Titanium Healthcare, continues to realize his dream of innovation for the betterment of humanity. When asked which of Cousteau’s films and books are his favorite, Kamran says “That’s like asking me to choose my favorite Russian novel, a very difficult choice! But if I have to choose, I’d say The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau Collection 1 and The Ocean World of Jacques Cousteau (1973 – 1978).”
