Newsletter January 2015 WALES DANCE PLATFORM CHAPTER ARTS - JUNE 28th 2014 Jukebox Collective showcased one of their up and coming new theatre projects “20 21st street” in Chapter Arts ‘Wales Dance Platform’ event this June. Their performance was showcased in the theatre space and also performed as an immersive piece in the bar/restaurant area downstairs. The Collective brought together a 7minute high energy dance/theatre showcase, focusing on a Love-Hate relationship between 2 couples. The 1920’s styled costumes brought to life the era of the story, and the character of each dancer. Members of the audience said the piece was “exciting , fun, and a joy to watch”. 1 STUDIO CLASSES Jukebox currently hold a wide range of classes for the public at their studio, located in John Street, Cardiff. The classes run weekly and are aimed towards newcomers, professionals, and dance enthusiasts. After their event launch “Social Saturday” Jukebox introduced 4 brand new classes to their studio timetable. SOCIAL SATURDAYMAY 31st 2014 WHAT A SUCCESS!! - Social Saturday proved to be a complete success on the 31st of May, A day of open workshops, live art, and live music held at Jukebox Studios and NoFitState Circus. Everyone was K.O by the end of the day.!! Stay tuned for the next Social Saturday. We will keep you informed.

Art Car Boutique

Above : Jukebox Collective captured as they show off their skills to promote Social Saturday in the Art Car Boutique 2014. Established in 2011 by Chapter and “Something Creatives”, the day was an eclectic and eccentric mix of art, performance, food, music, vintage fashion.

UEFA SUPERCUP FINAL

!Jukebox got together 100 dancers, mixing some of their company dancers and also recruiting new talent from the community to perform at this years opening ceremony for the UEFA SUPERCUP FINAL [RealMadrid vs Sevilla]. The dancers experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity and the performance was beyond a success! We congratulate all who took part!

FESTIVAL TOUR

Jukebox Collective and Big Swing Sound System come together to mix the essence of swing and hiphop to create a powerful, fun, creative and original set for the immense crowds of this summers festivals. From the Swing DJ of Mat the Hat and Kaptain to Hiphop and Swing influenced Dance moves by 4 members of Jukebox Collective, the combination of both proved to be a spectacular show.

LOVEBOX FESTIVAL

BLYSH

Held in our home town Cardiff, Blysh festival was a beautifully arranged vintage tent. The dance floor filled with Swing enthusiasts who gave Jukebox great energy whilst performing.!

COCK & BULL

A festival surrounded by farm animals and activities. Jukebox and Big Swing ended the festival with a BANG and perform their set for 2HOURS non stop. The crowd couldn't get enough!

SWICA CARNIVAL

Jukebox youth and their parents team together to hand create their innovative costumes for this summers SWICA carnival. Even in the rainy weather Jukebox managed to bring smiles to everyones faces with their brightly coloured patterns, african vibes, and their african influenced dance moves. We cant wait for next years carnival. What shall our theme be?!!

COMMUNITY - Our youngest dances aged from 6-11 years old take the stage at Ely Festival this July. Their very first performance together on stage this summer. They blew away the whole crowd and got hundreds of new kids eager to join them on stage. Keep a look out for these kids in the near future. The future sure is bright.

Diwali Festival

THE ANNUAL HIPHOP FESTIVAL HELD IN CARDIFFAugust 24th, 25th 2014 One of the best years yet. Dancers from all over the globe turned up to showcase their talent and bring the community together in honour of Hiphop Culture. Held at the Wales Millennium Centre, the festival was no short of Ecstatic. We hope to still be running this festival for many years to come. We are open to your suggestions of what you think might add even more vibrance, please dont hesitate give feedback and help 2015 be even better.

A CHALLENGING BUT REWARDING PERFORMANCE FOR JUKEBOX - Jukebox joined the community to celebrate Diwali Festival of Lights on WMC’s Glanfa stage

Renea Britto, Kyesha Tomlin, Tia and Jasmine Camilleri, were all chosen to play the main roles of the daughters in Fiddler on the Roof at the the New Theatre Cardiff. 

Iestyn James was chosen as one of 60 boys to create the production of Matthew Bourne’s Lord of the Flies at the Wales Millennium Centre.

THE MINISTRY OF SOUND

A NIGHT AT THE CASABLANCA

!For one extraordinary night in November, Wales Millennium Centre transformed the Donald Gordon stage into Butetown’s legendary Casablanca Club for a celebration of the rich musical heritage that made it famous around the world.

Jukebox Collective recruited some fresh new faces for this performance and put together a show stopping mixup of soul, gospel, reggae, swing, jazz and everything in between. Alongside well known faces from Dj Keith Murrell to The Bay Divas, the stage was complete!

From costumes to body movement the collective really embraced the essence and feel of how the Casablanca used to be. Members of the audience said the collective were ‘ High energy, stage stealing performers’. Keep an eye out for the new faces of Jukebox Collective. We are excited to share with you.
