A restorative process

restoration and growth of body cell, renewal

of tissues e.g. skin, bone, cell division,

increased secretion of growth hormone

conservation of body energy

Psychological functioning

assist memory storing, learning, emotional

adaptation

Sleep hygiene advice

Avoid daytime naps

Go to bed + get up at same time each day

Relax by warm bath/shower before bed

Avoid caffeine, nicotine or alcohol (for 1 hour before bedtime)

Take regular exercise (eat/drink healthy)

Don’t take your worries to bed

If you do not fall asleep – ‘read a book’
