Fashion Jewelry vs. Fine JewelryJewelry falls under a very broad category, making it hard to decipher whether or not the jewelry being worn has any value. Fashion jewelry (also known as costume jewelry) can sometimes be mistaken for designer jewelry as the look of it can be very deceiving. Some individuals pride themselves on their fashion jewelry more than their fine jewelry as fashion jewelry is cheaper and can show a wide variety of styles that can be unique to an outfit. Everyone has different preferences with jewelry, as the trend seems to be expressed a lot more through fashion jewelry. This does not rule out the fine jewelry wearers as the hard work put into creating a brand is still appreciated. So what separates these fine pieces of jewelry that many can’t seem to make the difference of?

Fashion jewelry, also known as costume jewelry is made from materials that can be turned into jewelry. The materials could be wood, leather, glass, fabric, copper, and brass. Everything but the kitchen sink goes into the making of fashion jewelry, providing a sense of “art” on your body. Designer rings, can be a thing of the past for you fashion jewelry wearer as the brightness of colors cannot be achieved with designer jewelry. that special someone with a limited budget. This doesn’t mean that designer rings made by a fashion jeweler will have not have any value to it. Lately there has been a hybrid category for fashion jewelry wearers called “high fashion jewelry. The meaning of “high” is based on the quality of materials that can allow the product to appear as if it was a piece of designer jewelry made by a very expensive brand. The use of precious metals mixed in with lower quality materials have created a jewelry that has a higher sense of fashion, but still falling below fine jewelry.

Fine jewelry is going to be the best brands paired with the highest of materials made to fit the expression of only the most sophisticated of designer jewelry wearers. The craftsmanship that goes in when cutting diamond engagements rings, and molding designer bracelets, are precision that proves a lot of labor hours giving the buyer the best quality. The misrepresentation of fashion jewelry takes away what goes in to the fine jewelry and its materials used. Diamonds, gold, and gemstones are just some of the materials that go into making fine jewelry. These materials are sometimes hard to come by, making the finished product of designer jewelry authentic and appreciated.

Personal preference separates the two categories, allowing the consumer to decide what’s best for them. As this goes on, the fashion and fine jewelry industry will continue making unique pieces of various materials to fit the consumer’s style.
