There are certain moments in life that adheres to your memory forever, there is one such

incident that happened in my life too that completely changed me. I am 19 years old and my

name is Eddie and this incident happened a year back when I was at my home during my

summer vacations, the days were passing by and I literally used to just eat, watch television and

sleep. I was fed up with my bored routine and I wanted some change, it was this thought which

gave me an idea to plan a road trip.

I had save some money and so I thought what is a better way than to spend a week alone

exploring the world, I took permission from my parents, made my backpack and next day I left

for this road trip. Till now, I had not planned what shall be my destination, all I knew was that I

am just going to explore different areas, hence one of my friend told me that there is a place

which is like 12 hour drive from my home town with the name of “Cassadiva”, he told me that I

should visit that place as it has one of the most beautiful views I would ever encounter.

While I was in my bus, waiting for the engine to start I saw a girl who was just my age,

sitting right in front of my seat, I could see tears rolling down her cheeks and it was at this

moment I thought that I should step up and ask her what happened, so I got up and sat next to

her. “What happened Ma’am?” I asked her, she replied with a gesture that made it clear that she

was in no mood to talk, so I gave her space and then the journey started and I stayed quiet all this

time.

Few hours in, I heard a voice “Excuse me?”, I looked next to me and saw that same girl

smiling and trying to talk to me, she apologized for her behavior earlier and asked where I am

going, to her surprise our destinations were same and hence we started talking, she told me her

name was Sarah and I told my name, we clicked so well that in no time we were talking about

movies, hobbies, sports etc. I loved this time and when I asked her why is she going to

Cassadiva, she told me that she just wanted to leave her place after she broke up with her

boyfriend and so wanted some change.

It was 2am at night when we reached our destination, both of us knew no one there so we

went straight to a hotel nearby and checked in, we both were way too tired so I went to my room

and she went to her. One thing that I need to mention here is that although I was 18 year old then

but still my interaction with females was close to zero, I had been studying in all boys’ school

and hence had no female friend. I don’t know why but once I went in bed I couldn’t wait for next

morning to meet Sarah and spend some time with her.

As sun rose next morning I came out of my room with just one thinking and that was to

meet Sarah, Sarah was already out of her room exploring the nearby town, I went up to her and

greeted her, to my surprise she gave me a hug, at this moment I was just hoping that she dint see

my blushing cheeks. We sat for lunch and she started telling me about her life and what she want

to achieve in her life. Listening to her was so much fun that I wanted this trip to never end,

finally I gained all courage and asked her regarding her breakup and this time she dint change the

topic but told me the story.

She told me that her boyfriend Steve was 4 years older than her and they dated for more

than 3 years, she told me that not only was her boyfriend extremely in love with her but she was

pampered more than any other girl ever could. I asked her that if everything was so fairy tale

type then why did they broke up, she told me that it wasn’t a fairy tale and things seems pretty

composed at a distance but when you are into that space you get to know that it's not only about

being cared for and pampered, it's also about competency and that's what lacked between us. As I

mentioned earlier she was of the same age as I am, and being at 19 you really are not mature

enough to look out in the real world of responsibilities. She further added that, she met Steve

when he was on a holiday from his college and had came to visit his parents since his father was

ill. It was only at hospital when she first met Steve as she was working there as a volunteer for

the hospital’s old age home. She described the scene really dramatically, just like a typical girl

explaining the recent Barbie movie she watched last night, the only thing left in their “first sight”

was slow motion and background music.

Steve along with his father Gabriel, who was a retired army officer, came to visit the old

age home, not to leave Gabriel there but to see Gabriel’s friends who had been living at this old

age home. She added that when Steve first came to her at reception to ask about his father’s

friend he was as firm as a rock but at the same time as gentle as a lamb, I guess it was the

upbringing by an army officer that taught him that. And fortunately Steve was asking for the

same fellow whom Sarah was looking after, she guided him through the corridors which were

long enough to give each other an introduction. Sarah told that she was courageous enough to

compliment Steve that his background from the arm forces have made him act so presentable, to

which Steve laughed and told her that it wasn't him who belonged to arm forces but his father.

Steve asked Sarah, “ You don't seem like a doctor, you are too young for that.” Sarah smiled and

answered politely, “Just as you don't belong to army, I don't belong to nursing. I am interning

here for the welfare.” Sarah told that his visits were frequent and long enough that Sarah’s shift

would end and Steve would drop her back home. One day Steve appeared without his father and

came to Sarah to ask her out for a dinner after her shift, to which sarah agreed, as she mentioned

about their first date I could see the twinkle in her eyes turning into a teardrop rolling down to

her cheeks, which made me realize that I should now ask her to stop and so I waived to the

waiter to collect our orders. It was surprising to know that we had the same preferences when it

came to food as well and ended up ordering from the section of beef only.

After the food I asked her if she knows much places around that they could visit, she

looked at me with a little anger and shock and asked that if I have ever read about the town, to

which I answered no,that apparently made her put a gaze on me said, “Let's go out for a walk.”.

Though I would have loved to but I couldn't just give this impression of someone madly dying to

go out with her, so I asked, “Don't you think that we should plan it” and she answered, “No

doubt! anyone who haven't seen or read about this place could say this only” .

Feeling like a fool who was trying hard to act tough I agreed to go out on a walk, we took

our backpacks and headed straight out of the hotel. after taking a tramp which took us to the

scenic part of the town I realized that why did Sarah wanted to come out of that shallow hotel

and not to go to another such man made place. As we walked along the streets we could see that

the whole town was full of extremely glorious views. I could see Sarah enjoying the view and

then she asked me that if I would be fine listening to her traumatic love story and since I didn't

want to act rude to end up looking stupid I shook my head to give her a heading signal.

This time to a pleasure she didn't mentioned that how perfect her ex-boyfriend was and

instead started of mentioning the long distance relationship that they had to bear since Steve

returned to his college soon when his father’s health had improved. She told me that not only

they skyped daily in the starting few months but use to write each other letters and talk on calls

multiple times in a day but then slowly those daily skype session turned into weekly and monthly

and calls were deduced to text, which not only reduced their interest in the relationship but made

them have assumptions of each other being involved with someone else and that's what moved

them apart.

I realized that Sarah and Steve could have had a better relation if only these two would

not have faced the long distance,This was the last time she spoke of Steve in the entire stay.

Sarah’s story made me realize that no matter if you love the person you are dating or not, you

need to trust them with all your heart, because in the end it’s not love or care it's trust that builds

the relationship. It’s been time that I heard from Sarah but her social media tells me that she has

now overcome the past and is busy in her life.
