•With the weather plummeting, your desire to workout is probably doing the same thing. It can be difficult to workout in the winter, especially outdoors.

•But, thanks to Brogan Graham and Bojan Mandaric of The November Project, we are now able to keep our workouts in tact and find the motivation we need to get exercise.

• Created in 2011 as a way for people in Boston to keep up with their workouts throughout Massachusetts’ harsh winters.

• Since then, The November Project has developed into a nationally recognized fitness movement containing “tribes” across sixteen cities.

• Members strive to motivate each other, emphasizing the power of teamwork and commitment when it comes to working out.

• Women’s Health Magazine conducted an interview with Graham and Laura McClosky, both members of the November Project, and were given tips on how to gain motivation and determination to workout during the chilly winter months.

• Nothing can be worse than working out when you aren’t well-equipped for cold weather.

• You don’t want cold, damp socks or jackets that don’t keep the wind from hitting your body.

• If it’s dark out, don’t forget to wear some sort of reflective gear or a headlamp so people can see you.

• This will not only help you stay consistent, but it will give you determination to work out in cold weather.

• Graham says that, “Setting a pattern is important for maintaining workout regularity, which helps you make sure you don’t think of exercise as an option, weather-dependent add-on to your day.”

• Try registering for a late winter or early spring race in order to help you feel more inclined to workout when the weather is miserable.

• According to Graham, who is a Boston Marathon runner: “In Boston, winter isn’t an excuse. You have to train all winter if you’re going to run the marathon.”

• If you’re not a runner, set a different goal - maybe there’s a pair of jeans you want to fit into by spring, or perhaps you have a big event in March that you want to fit into a certain dress by.

But, before you go out running along icy roads, always remember that safety is the most important thing you can do for your own health - so use your

best judgement. If it’s not safe to workout on a particular day, don’t risk it.
