DESCRIPTION

You know, sometimes it’s the accessories that make the outfit. Did you know that there are “accessories” for your air conditioning unit? There are parts that you can invest in to help your AC unit run more efficiently and last longer. One of those great resources is a hard start, what it does it take the brunt of the excess power when starting up and feeds your compressor the right amount of power to get going. In a normal summer season here in Florida your AC Unit will start up at least 6,000 times. Can you believe it?! Each time your air conditioner, or any appliance for that matter, starts up it is fed almost ten times more power than it takes to keep it running. So each start is almost like a little kick to your compressor which in turn is a little kick to your capacitor. With 6,000 little kicks in just a few months think of the beating your compressor will take over years. Please note that the compressor and capacitor are the heart of your AC Unit. Imagine a light bulb, have you ever noticed that they usually blow out when you flip the switch? That’s because, just like your appliances, there is a jolt of power at first to get it going. Like that light bulb the last thing you want is for your air conditioner to blow from that jolt of power. That is where a Hard Start comes into place, each time your HVAC Unit starts up the hard start will absorb the increase in amps (or the kicks) and only feed the compressor the power it needs to get going. A hard start is one of the great resources out there to help maintain and prolong the life of your AC Unit. Along with proper installation and maintenance you could have an AC Unit that lasts into the decades. Air conditioners are not what they used to be 10 – 15 years ago, back then it was a rule of thumb that a 2,500 sq ft home was to have a 5 ton air conditioner; today there are 2,700 sq ft homes running efficiently on 2.5 ton air conditioners. With the correct design, installation and maintenance you don’t have to spend a small fortune to keep your home comfortable and cool. Be sure your AC Service Provider is up to date on their training and technology so they can recommend things like hard starts and efficient duct work design so your electric bill is under $100 each month. Be sure your HVAC maintenance visits are lasting at least an hour to an hour and a half and the technician leaves you with all the information you need. They should leave you with an invoice that states everything they checked and lists the readings of what your AC Unit should be at and what it actually is at. Be sure to ask questions and state your concerns so the technician can guide you to the right solutions for you.
