Carrying a handgun while hunting
Bringing a firearm on a hunting trip is a useful practice, if law permits.
Don’t forget why you own a firearm• Ignorance is not an excuse to neglect self-defense.
• A simple knife or in season weapon may not be enough.
• Understand the defense limitations with bows or muzzleloaders against multiple attackers.
Legalities• Hunting is a highly regulated activity.
• Second amendment rights while hunting have been historically supported.
• In 2012, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed House Bill 2457 into law.
It supported lawful carry of an additional weapon for self-defense so long as the second weapon was not used for taking wildlife.
Some states with additional carry
• Since 1995, Oregon hunters have been able to carry any type of firearm into the field.
• Hunters in Washington may legally carry a handgun during archery or muzzle-loading seasons.
• California supports some Second Amendment rights in the field.
First law of nature• Self-preservation
• We must take additional responsibilities to protect ourselves and those around us.
• This can be done with the appropriate concealed carry techniques out in the field.
Don’t be caught in a bad place. Be prepared.
• When out in the wilderness, it’s necessary to understand safety, responsibility, and an understanding that personal defense is multi-faceted.
