Be a Jewel! The style of Balanchine’s Jewels@La Scala-Milano George Balanchine has an influence on me. My Pilates guru (Romama Kryzanowska) was one of his dancers. The book I’m reading (ballerina Gelsey Kirkland’s biography) tells a lot about his style and manners; and yesterday his Jewels at La Scala was the last brick of a long lasting acquaitance. Legend tells he happened to see the shopwindows of Van Cleef &Arpels in New York and had a epiphany and wanted to turn into dance the joy, brightness and splendour of precious stones: emeralds, rubies and diamonds. So he create a long, no-narrative coreograohy…on the rocks. Costumes (incrusted with beads and crystals) still look fairy-tales beautiful. Want to re-create the some kind of allure? Use the Shiseido make-up tools the brand (offical make up of La Scala) used on dancers. Ps: You can add also a pin or bague by Van Cleef &Arpels, if you can afford them. If not, they are at eye- disposal at the boutique of via Verri, Milano, until May the 26th. Stage pictures by Brescia-Amisano/Teatro La Scala: top, soloist dancers Sutera e Garritano . Jewels by van Cleef&Arpels . Make-up by Shiseido.

(Romama Kryzanowska) was one of his dancers. The book I’m reading (ballerina Gelsey Kirkland’s biography) tells a lot about his style and manners; and yesterday his Jewels at La Scala was

Compared to Emeralds, Rubies was more jazzy (for music and style) ,

vibrant and athletic and that gave a hit to all the audience, and the energy needed to follow a no-destination

recital. Liked the soloists (especially Sofia Rosolini), the different couples and short solos. And the director…too. Not to mention: the Perfect Rouge lipstik

and the astonishing jewels.

And finally came Diamonds, technically more demanding and more involving all toghether

even if still a bit froid (rocks are cold, actually). I loved Eric Nehza solos, he was light as a feather

but powerlful and solid. Bravo! And if you ever wondered (like I did) how the

dancers can be so moon pale perfect, well now you know: the Translucent Powder by Shiseido. Need to have it to reflect light like a diamond…

(plus concelear, of course…).
