Senior Investment Manager (In-house Pension Fund) City, London £Competitive package, plus benefits Our Client A rare in-house Pensions Investment Management opportunity has been newly created within the investment arm of one of a large UK pension scheme. Operating within a small, highly skilled and very stable team you will be managing the Schemes’ combined multi-billion pound assets. You will have exposure to liquid and illiquid assets, offering a broad exposure to the global investment market. The Role The main responsibilities of the Senior Investment Manager will be: Researching, selecting, monitoring and on-going assessment of the Schemes fund managers, keeping abreast of developments, and being a key point of contact and manager of these managers and other external providers; Monitoring the activity of existing investment managers, including investment performance, investment processes and controls, benchmarks and terms of appointment. The candidate will be required to have a strong understanding and working knowledge of both liquid (equity, fixed income, cash) and illiquid (private equity, private debt, property, illiquid credit) asset classes respectively; Monitoring cash positions across the Schemes, working closely with the organisation's Operations to understand cash forecasts and being able to make recommendations on where to raise cash to address liquidity; Initiating research into new investment managers and strategies and making recommendations where it is felt they will improve the effectiveness of the portfolio in implementing investment strategy; Taking responsibility for new projects when implementing investment strategy, to cover all aspects of the mandate design from drafting the bespoke RFP all the way through to agreeing investment restrictions. A close working relationship with the organisation's operations will be essential; Preparing investment reports for the Trustees and leading presentations where appropriate; Responsible for monitoring of existing external managers, including the production of regular written reports on the progress of the investment managers; Do you fit? The successful candidate is likely to have circa 8 - 10 years relevant experience, demonstrating a deep understanding of a range of traditional and alternative multi-asset investment strategies. Additionally having strong conviction when making recommendations. Experience will include: Hands-on experience as an investment manager or investment consultant. Responsibility for manager selection and monitoring. Portfolio construction and implementation expertise. Use of derivatives as an implementation tool.
