ORGANIZATIONAL TRAFFIC JAMS!!!!

A “Human” Behaviour in Organizations

Completely my opinion and I felt like sharing with all in general. I think it is also applicable in our context at several places in our roles irrespective of what levels & positions we hold in any organization.

WHENEVER we get caught in a TRAFFIC JAM & we are desperate to reach somewhere, that can become a TEST of our PATIENCE.

Especially driving in most of ASIA at times is a real test of PATIENCE. In any TRAFFIC JAM, I have usually realized that there is a LEAD TIME of PATIENCE after which the collective IMPATIENCE leads to opening up of ways. It is another fact that in WEST this might not be a phenomenon at all.

Beyond 15 to 20 Mins, seldom any traffic jam would last atleast in ASIAN Context. If we think over it, psychologically the reason would be that HUMAN BEINGS may perhaps associate a delay of 15 to 20 Mins as a “REAL DELAY”.

We are patient & comfortable till then that some miracle or pathway will happen & we all will break through. However as soon as the clock ticks 15/ 20 Mins, the WORST TRAFFIC JAMS start un-folding.

There is a PATTERN here which is very important to register.

Connecting this with an ORGANIZATIONAL SITUATION, we all get caught in TRAFFIC JAMS ourselves, by someone not taking decision, by a group of people not taking decisions or the speed of DECISIONS too slow or Decisions not being taken on time or someone breaking the process or system & moving completely opposite to what is right or we ourselves being unable to decide.

The LEAD TIME on such decisions at times can cause immense loss of time, money & value for organizations.

Infact Organizations today must sensitize, talk & train their people in one competence in practice –

SENSE OF URGENCY - WITHOUT SENSE of URGENCY, DESIRE LOSES ITS VALUE.

It is better to be prepared for ORGANIZATIONAL TRAFFIC JAMS than to get caught in that AGAIN & AGAIN.
