When working together within a production it is vital that you take into account others around you, whether that be with other prop and set builders to ensure you both have similar understandings on geographical, historical, social and contextual understanding of the play, this also is important when leasing with music, script and choreographer producers, in order to make sure all involved are on the same page.

Across the whole production it was imperative that the performance looked uniformed purely for

aesthetic reasons, due to it being set in a school there obviously needs to be a specific uniform

present, in this particular instance there was a theme of red and white because these were the colours

of the high school in both the film and the play. One other thing that had to be kept the same

throughout the play was the schools crest, we had to decide as a class between an ‘E’ for east high or

a cartoon drawing of a wild cat, in the end we came to a decision that the wild cat would be a better

symbol as it is more identifiable to the audience. Therefore when designing the crest on the labcoats

we drew one crest out and made sure everyone had the exact design and this is what I used. I also

when making sharpays specific labcoat had to make sure this corresponded with her other outfits, for

example, sharpays character wore very girly, pink,sparkley outfits, therefore I had to correspond with

costume to make sure it was suitable. I decided that the best thing to do was to source a hot pink lab

coat and on the pocket instead of having the East High crest, I made an S for sharpay out of sequins

and sewn them on, after that I then covered the rest of the pocket in, jewels, dimontaies and feathers

in order for it to fit with the particular character. I also had to make a gong for one particular scene

in the play, were miss darbus hits it in order to get everybody's attention in class, at first this task

proved rather difficult due to how expensive hand held gongs were to buy and rent due to them

being so rare, I then looked at using a real symbol attached to a frame, but after consulting music

technicians it became apparent that the noise of the symbol when hit, would not make a realistic

gong noise, as it would be too high pitched. After another mood board and discussion I came to the

decision that it would be best if I made a ‘look alike’ gong myself and added in a sound effect to the sound cues when ‘miss darbus’ hits it. For this I had to work with sound in order to find a specific gong noise which I think had the most authentic noise.
