IT’S THE EMPLOYEES (THE WORKERS) THAT GET IT ALL DONE ! The health and safety of you the employees (the workers) is number one. It is the first responsibility of the Supervisor to ensure day after day, shift after shift, that you go home the same way you came in. Zero incidents are the goal and zero incidents are possible. We together, you and I inside this facility make a quality product for the market world outside. We will strive to meet and to exceed all targets. This is what we do. This is why we have a job. The market world outside is highly competitive and this ‘reality’ should be highly ingrained in our work lives. We as a team expect that there will be change here at work. Change is here to stay. It could come from a number of different areas - technological, logistical, environmental and always through lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. We need to help each other and depend on each other to welcome change and work through change. The payoff is great. Continuous Improvement. Management cannot do this alone. The Supervisor needs your constant input and feedback to move forward inside manufacturing. Only you the worker can give that valuable information. The Supervisor must be constantly immersed inside this information world and know how to get the resources to make improvements happen. We together, need to show our customers and our global partners and our global competitors, what we can do. Too often in manufacturing a great product goes out the door never to be seen or heard from again, unless something goes wrong. You and I need to have an image in our minds of what its like out there to receive and install and ‘use’ our product. Five minute videos or link-ups from ‘outside’ would be of such great value. Some will say that an untidy work area has little to do with the above. It does. All things are connected. Untidiness can breed more of the same and it can lead to apathy and negativity and even unsafe work practices. I have never seen an untidy workplace succeed and make plans for the future. We should crave a work place of cleanliness and tidiness. It defines our workplace culture. It’s safer and it’s a reflection on us that will instill pride in our work. When the outside world looks at us they should see a modest, smart and highly efficient work team in action. A work team made up of rich cultures. A work team made up of individuals with new ideas, such has never been seen in manufacturing in the past. As Supervisor it must be my job to provide all the resources to you that you need to perform your job 100%. From personal protective equipment (PPE) to coaching, counseling, training and refresher training to feedback on your performance, and to convey all new company information your way so that both you and I are ‘in the know.’ Coming in to work each day should not be ‘not just another day.’ Coming in to work each day should be another improvement day, another idea day, another day where we can see ourselves objectively and know that we are making at difference here at work and in the outside world. And after all, each of us takes to work our plans and dreams and an image of our family at home. My pledge It is my pledge to be the work team’s first responder, with First Aid yes but for all issues, concerns, successes and failures. I am your “Go to” person for ALL things in manufacturing. And if there’s a question that I don’t have the answer for, I will get that answer for you. FARRELL’S TEN POINTS OF MANUFACTURING

IT’S THE EMPLOYEES (THE WORKERS) THAT GET IT ALL DONE !

• The health and safety of you the employees (the workers) is number one. It is the first responsibility of the Supervisor to ensure day after day, shift after shift, that you go home the same way you came in. Zero incidents are the goal and zero incidents are possible.

• We together, you and I inside this facility make a quality product for the market world outside. We will strive to meet and to exceed all targets. This is what we do. This is why we have a job. The market world outside is highly competitive and this ‘reality’ should be highly ingrained in our work lives.

• We as a team expect that there will be change here at work. Change is here to stay. It could come from a number of different areas - technological, logistical, environmental and always through lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. We need to help each other and depend on each other to welcome change and work through change. The payoff is great.

• Continuous Improvement. Management cannot do this alone. The Supervisor needs your constant input and feedback to move forward inside manufacturing. Only you the worker can give that valuable information. The Supervisor must be constantly immersed inside this information world and know how to get the resources to make improvements happen.

• We together, need to show our customers and our global partners and our global competitors, what we can do. Too often in manufacturing a great product goes out the door never to be seen or heard from again, unless something goes wrong. You and I need to have an image in our minds of what its like out there to receive and install and ‘use’ our product. Five minute videos or link-ups from ‘outside’ would be of such great value.
