In today’s world we communicate via cell phone and text messaging, our dinners often times come from the form of a package or delivered in a drive-thru. The reality is we’re just extremely busy and the more that’s thrown on our plate creates a lack of importance in things like accuracy. As representatives and workers of the court our jobs rely on truth and efficiency, so it pays to take the extra steps to ensure that we are giving 120% of what’s expected. Here are a few quick tips to help you prep for your day in court.

Tip One: Practice and perfect your craft. Developing skills is easier than you think. It’s

a matter of designating time to that perfection. Set aside a minimum of 10-20 minutes

a day on becoming more proficient. The difference will really pay off later on.

Tip Two: Test your speed. Try making a game out of it, but each time you practice, time

yourself and challenge yourself to go faster, increasing your speed. Test for accuracy

next. It won’t make fast if you’re fast, but have a multitude of error.

Tip Three: Visualize your success. The old saying “Thoughts become things” is true.

Have confidence in yourself and plan that success accordingly. Each time you’ve

accomplished a goal, reward yourself with something valuable to you.

Tip Four: Do breathing exercises. Get the oxygen into your brain by taking some deep, exhilarating breaths and exhale by blowing

out the air till you run out of breath. Do this a few times before you begin. You’d be surprised how much adrenaline pumps through

when you have proper breath. This will also help keep you alert during long court sessions.

Tip Five: Exercise four times per week. By having a routine fitness regimen in place in your daily life, you’ll find that most things are

better. Although you may be sitting for long periods of time, when your body is in good shape, your posture is better, your breath

better and you get more rest.

Tip Six: Make sure you get adequate sleep the night before your court session. Try not to over indulging in food or alcohol before

bedtime. While a glass of wine or beer is okay, a bottle or case isn’t. Physiologically we do not go into REM sleep when we are

drunk. Food before bed isn’t only tough on your digestive system, it can put on the extra weight from slowing of the metabolic rate.

Avoid large meals and carbs before a night of rest. If you’re lethargic before a court case, you’ll be at risk of making mistakes that

can cost you.
