INTRODUCTION For more than 20 years, Barbara Katsos has served clients in NY with legal

issues surrounding the areas of estate planning, wills, and trusts. In addition to her day-to-day work at the Law Offices of Barbara Katsos, she also is a member of the New York City Bar Association.

The New York City Bar Association (NYCBA) has recently unveiled a list of priorities it would like to see addressed in city government for the upcoming year. Among those priorities, the city bar is calling upon lawmakers to update laws pertaining to public procurement construction. By allowing the public a wider range of options to choose from in the areas of procurement and delivery, the bar believes these entities would save money and increase safety.

According to the NYCBA, all of the laws and regulations concerning procurement for public construction efforts need to be updated for modern conventions. The organization points to the Model Procurement Code for Public Infrastructure, drafted by the American Bar Association, as an ideal starting point for updating the city’s statutory regulations.
