Print books

• Books on European Union Law are shelved in the Law Collection on the 2nd floor of the City Campus Library

• They are all on the Library Catalogue • We have text books such as “Understanding

European Union Law” K. Davies. • We have dictionaries such as “Eurojargon” (a

dictionary of EU acronyms, abbreviations and terminology)

• We have legislation books such as “European Union legislation” J.Kenner.

Electronic books (ebooks)

• Individual e-book titles can be accessed online through the Library catalogue.

• A link to the URL is given in the catalogue record. You will need to login with your Leeds Beckett username and password to access the full text.

• EU Bookshop contains links to pdf versions of most documents and books recently published by the Official Publications Office of the European Union (EUR-OP). Older titles are available to order (mainly free of charge for single copies).

A search of the Library’s list of e-journals (Library> Resources> Journals> Ejournals A-Z) for European Law provides a list of 77 more journals which may be of interest, e.g.

European Company and Financial Law Review, European Human Rights Law Review, Anti-Discrimination Law and the European Union

Finding Journal articles on EU Law topics

• Please note, the A-Z list of journals mentioned on the previous slide is useful for finding out whether we subscribe to a particular journal title

• If you want to find lots of articles on a particular subject (e.g. EU Competition law) I recommend searching DISCOVER

• This is a search engine that searches 95% of the Library databases, and is searchable using the box on the Library home page

Key databases for EU Law

• EUR-Lex http://eur-lex.europa.eu/ The official home of treaties, the Official Journal, consolidated legislation etc. Includes useful overviews like the ABC of EU Law, and useful summaries of EU Legislation by topic area.

• European Court of Human Rights: HUDOC   http://www.echr.coe.int/ Information and case law for the European Court of Human Rights

• Europa http://europa.eu/ Users can consult all legislation currently in force or under discussion.

• EuroParl http://www.europarl.europa.eu/ Useful for finding debates of the European Parliament and European Parliament reports

• WorldLII http://www.worldlii.org/countries.html

This is a useful way of finding quality, freely accessible

sources of law materials relating to individual countries.

More key databases for EU Law

Westlaw • Quick way of searching for journal articles on EU Law. Also contains

EU case law and legislation. Includes European Human Rights Reports.

• Once you enter Westlaw, you can click on the EU tab, which leads you to a search screen limiting you to EU materials only.

• You can then browse to the Case or Legislation you want or you can search across the Westlaw EU materials.

Lexis Library • Large legal database. Contains journal articles, EU case law and

legislation. It includes All England Law Reports European Cases, among other EU law sources.
