This slideshow will outline five things that insurance companies do not want you to know when it

comes to negotiating.

1. THEY WANT YOU TO END UP WITH AS LITTLE MONEY AS POSSIBLE

• Insurance adjusters are trained to devalue your personal injury case so that you agree to settle for less money.

• Adjusters will seem empathetic and pleasant, but will ask questions that lead you to answer in a way that undermines the value of your case.

• Be mindful to keep your personal injury damages in mind (medical bills, lost wages, and emotional suffering) and do not let adjusters devalue your case.

2. INSURANCE COMPANIES DON’T WANT LAWYERS INVOLVED

• Insurance adjusters will make lawyers seem unnecessary and greedy, because they know that you will receive more money when you have an attorney representing you.

• Adjusters will try to get you to settle without the help of an attorney because that means that you will walk away with a smaller settlement.

• Pro-tip: the less money insurance adjusters give you, the more money they make.Source: Bighorn Law

3. INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL LIE TO YOU

• Do not be fooled, insurance adjusters will lie about what damages you are entitled to. For instance, adjusters will say that you are not entitled to compensation for neck injuries you sustained in a car accident if you had neck problems prior to the accident – this is FALSE. You are entitled to compensation for all injuries that you sustain in an accident, regardless of whether you had issues prior to the accident. Source: Bighorn Law

4. INSURANCE ADJUSTERS ARE PROFESSIONAL NEGOTIATORS

• As mentioned in an earlier slide, don’t be fooled by an adjuster’s pleasant demeanor: adjusters are trained negotiators and will do what they can to get you to settle for less than you deserve.

• Adjusters may use phrases, such as: “after analyzing your medical bills, we are only able to offer you half…” – statements like this are meant to sound absolute, but they are not. They are negotiation tactics that are meant to sound authoritative and based on fact. Be aggressive and stand firm on the settlement amount that you calculated before the negotiation even started.

5. INSURANCE COMPANIES HAVE MILLIONS TO BILLIONS OF DOLLARS SET ASIDE

COLLECTING INTEREST• In the case of a major financial

catastrophe, insurance companies have financial reserves set aside that are often filled with millions of dollars. This money is only growing from interest. Because of this, they do have the money to compensate you, but adjusters will still do everything in their power to make your settlement as small as possible. Source: Bighorn Law
