Defining Our Vision:Collaboration, Sustainability and Ecotourism

A Global Approach:

-An approach that is mutually beneficial to all parties involved with implementation of a project, an idea or an initiative.

-An approach that is only biased to and adopts the most qualified and proven practices.

-An approach that ensures best practices and results for all.

Purpose of a Global Approach:

-To ensure transparency and oneness among diverse groups, as they move forward toward common goals and achievement.

-To eliminate unsound or individual motives in the process of reaching desired goals or achievements.

-To establish an environment for fair exchange between all stake holders involved with a process, regardless of social, economic, or political status.

-To limit debate relating to personal or political agendas.

-To clearly define a mission, goal, and an implementation process that benefits the group equally.

Implementing a Global Approach:

-We have identified three important key terms, that mustbe defined and accepted, for the successful implementation of this project.

-We defined them with using a global approach.

-Those terms are: Collaboration, Sustainability andEcotourism.

Collaboration:

Collaboration is a process where multiple agencies or people work together to realize common goals.

Its purpose is to enhance the capacity of each, from mutual benefit and common purpose.

Collaboration is useful in creating an integrated service system for joint decision making, common forms, and for common training across agencies.

Sustainability:

Sustainability, is having the capacity to endure, at the same time meeting the needs of today without compromising the needs of future generations.

There are three major components to consider for attainment of sustainability: Ecology, Economy, and Equity.

Further considerations must include: Social, Financial and Environmental criteria…

Sustainability Criteria to Consider:Social Criteria:-Is this socially desirable?-Is this culturally acceptable?-Is it psychologically nurturing?

Financial Criteria:-Is it economically sustainable?-Is it technologically feasible?-Is it operationally viable?

Environmental Criteria:-Is it environmentally robust?-Is it generationally sensitive?-Is it capable of continuous learning?

Eco-tourism:

Eco-tourism is a niche market in the tourism industry. It embraces environmental conservation, maintenance of biodiversity, a satisfying experience for the visitors, study an appreciation of nature and sustainable community development. There are three major goals of eco-tourism, or the 3 P’s: People, Place and Profit.

Eco-tourism continued…The 3 P’s Breakdown:-People: Focusing on the socio-cultural benefits to local communities and tourists.-Place: Focusing on the biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.-Profits: Promotion and stimulation of economies, both local and global.

A comprehensive and best functioning definition of Eco-tourism then, is: -Sustainable tourism, which is nature based and incorporates a desire to minimize negative social and environmental impacts and emphasize focus on economic, environmental, social, community and visitor benefits.
