How did the genre of your music magazine attract them?

The genre of my music magazine is rap. This is often publicized as a cool, swaggerish and very wealthy genre of music. It attracts my target audience as it is heavily based on wealth and success which will naturally interest people of a lower social background who are at this moment in time striving to achieve in life.As well as my target audience being from a lower social background this genre of music is very male dominated. So by adding bold, strong, powerful colours as well as a lower ratio of text to pictures I am able to tend to the stereotypical needs of my target audience.

Rap music is also a genre that talks heavily about coming from a low social background and finding success through rap. This will naturally resonate with people from a lower social background.

What images did you take, use and then edit to attract your target audience?

The main photos I took for my magazine were of keanan Adams who was posing as KID INK.

For these shots I used a medium shot, shooting keanan from the waist up. This was so that audience is close enough to the photo so that they can connect with the artist but also see what the artist is wearing as my target audience will be interested in fashionable, wealthy clothes. The costume is an £275 pound jacket with an Armani logo on the sleeve. This is a recognizable logo associated with wealth and success which will continue the theme of the magazine.

I didn't’t use props as I didn't’t want to distract from the artist or the costume. I also felt that I rap music the artist has such a strong, cool and relaxed persona that they don’t need props to enhance this.

How did your choice of models conform to stereotypes of the music genre you chose?

First of all The stereotypical ethnicity linked with this genre of music is African American. The model I chose was mixed race/ black. If the most stereotypically popular ethnicity is black then my target audience as a majority will be able to relate better to someone of the same ethnicity. Although this may be unfair in rap music it is mostly black or mixed raced artist who are the most popular or who are chosen to appear on magazine covers.

Keanan naturally has a swagger about him and this made it a lot easier when directing him on how I would like him to pose for the photos. He also has quite a stocky build which reflects a male dominated genre of music as well as contributing to the male gaze theory.

How does your cover lines and main double page spread story attract your audience?

COVER LINES:My cover lines and front cover attract my target audience by being simplistic bold and in an informal text. Bold yet vague attract the reader and then intrigues them to want to reader on more. They also contain popular celebrity names who will be featured in the magazine as well as a preview into what the double page spread will be about.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD:As I have already mentioned gaining success from a low social background is something that my target audience can relate to, so this is what my story was about. It talks about how KID INK went form the streets of Compton to being a millionaire rapper. It also had a question and answer session with the superstar, adding another dimension to my magazine and making it more enjoyable and interesting for the reader.

What kind of marketing campaigns do you think would attract your target audience when your magazine is released?

I would use a range of marketing techniques such as billboards to advertise to the masses of the general public with re-memorable pictures, colours and slogans.

Also, due to my target audience being teenagers/ young adults I think my magazine would be heavily involved in social media as this is something extremely popular with people of this age range.
