• Strangers don’t need to know your personal information, and your friends will already have it.

• Text only what you would say in person

• Obey parental and school rules about usage

When are you born online?

• 92% of Children under 2 have an online footprint created by their parents

• What you create stays with them for life

• Are you creating the right image

• What will they think of what you created

• Will they be the next president or a celebrity?

Things to do

• Set up a Google alert on you and your children

• Register your child’s domain name

• Play the same games they play

• Load the same apps they are using

• Talk to them and teach them good ethics

• Don’t text or write when angry or upset

• Think about what you send or post

• Review what’s out there and ask people to remove stuff

• There are typically 3 types of parents

• My child does nothing wrong, they are perfect

• Controlling what they do is part of being a good parent

• The world is collapsing and there is a huge issue

Cyberbullying

• Bullying is not new

• The magnitude of it being online makes it very public

• It can be done anonymously

• Leverage reporting mechanisms

• Twitter

• Instagram

• YouTube

• Facebook

• Understand the signs

• Mood Changes

• Changes in typical behavior

• Open dialogue

• Do not interrogate!

• Use friends and family

• Document it with screen captures, emails and pictures

• Seek professional guidance

• Teachers
