Masthead
The masthead is hidden behind the head of the artist which shows that the magazine is
popular and its buyers would know the name regardless of it’s visibility. The font they
have used is thin and sleek which gives off a very elegant yet serious look to the
magazine. The denotation from the word “Billboard” makes it very obvious that it is a
music magazine. Billboard uses the colors red, blue and green in all of its mastheads
which gives it a sense of familiarity to it’s readers.
The main cover image of the artist is
captured in a very intriguing way. Firstly
the artists expression says a lot about
him the connotation that I picked up is
that he is hurt by the way his eyes and
squinted and how he is staring directly
at the camera, which is done to connect
with readers, and the way his hand is on
his chest like he is trying save his heart
from breaking.
On the other hand low key lighting has
been used which creates shadows
which usually means mystery or that the
person is trying to hide something.
The styling of his outfit shows that he is
a rapper with baggy clothing and the
subtle hint of a gold chain. Also the
color black represents sadness or
mourning or loss.
Main Cover Image
The main over line is placed in a very
strategic way e.g. the word “recovery” is
placed just over the his hand on his heart,
which could have an explicit meaning of
his heart recovering from heartbreak. Also
the used of black on white could have a
connotation of good vs. evil or right vs.
wrong. The artists name Eminem is in
bold which could mean that he is very well
known. Also the use of the color green
that could represent hope and mean that
he hasn’t lost all hope.
Main Cover Line
The coverlines are only placed on the left side
of the cover which is a convention not used by
most magazines as the most common way of
positioning the cover lines is in a “U”
formation.
The use of color here again is green and
white both of which represent hope and
optimism over the color black.

The puff is not a very prominent in the cover which might mean that the information that
it carries may not be very important. The Puff still includes names of famous singers to
catch the readers attention and chart heat is also written for people who are interested in
what songs are on top of the charts.

Cover Lines
The masthead is the biggest text in the front cover, This convention is used to attract
readers. The color pink represents love or happiness and is mostly always targeted to
girls and this what glamour magazine is trying to achieve by using this color. Also the
magazine is shown to be popular as the masthead is covered by the head of the model
Masthead
Here the main cover image tells us a
lot about the artist.
Firstly the model is smiling which tells
us she is happy her hair is curled and
styled to look wild which may
represent her personality moreover
her leopard print dress with ruffles on
the bottom may also represent her
wild personality.
Her pink belt and ring with a heart hint
that she may be in love.
The use of blue which associated with
boys and pink which is associated with
girls may have the connotation that its
love between a boy and a girl.
Main Cover
Image
The cover lines follow the color
scheme that is blue and pink which
gives the magazine a good flow.
The magazine also highlights the
important information or buzzwords
in pink and blue to make it stand out
The positioning of the cover are done
parallel to each other this is done so
the models outfit can be seen clearly
as Glamour magazine is a fashion
magazine.
Another important code that has
been used is that the name of the
model is not highlighted like it is in
most magazine, this could mean that
the model is very famous and
readers will recognize her without the
name written.
Cover Lines
The puff is in pink which represents love
and the hearts around it and the
“Valentines say giveaways also highlights
that fact further. The buzzword “free Stuff!”
and “Win Win Win” is a code used to catch
a readers attention.
