Start with <Start>

• Startmenu = the start of everything• Getting started with <Win>• Don’t look yourself, let the system look for

you• Type what you want after pressing <Start>

• Know your system: VM1110• Pin to Start

• Right Click -> “Pin to Start Menu”• Right Click -> “Unpin from Start Menu”

• Jump lists• Pin and unpin to jumplist

• Snap windows• <Win + left/right>• <Win+up/down>• <Shift + Win + left/right>

Taskbar and system tray

• <Win+T> Focus taskbar

• Pin to taskbar

• <alt+tab> Cycle throuh apps

• Grouped documents

Exploring files and folders

• Some important locations• C-drive: your system

• Do not save anything here. Not in the backup. Very limited space.

• N-drive: your personal files• In our backup• Only work related files• Desktop folder• My Documents

• O-drive: shared files• In our backup• Folder per department / service• Common

• Visible and accessible for all!• Auto delete after 7 days• Need for permanent storage: ask

• Downloads• Not permanent storage

• Recycle bin

• Libraries• Organise folders in libraries for

easy access• Makes searching easier

• Favorites• Respect the policy!

Using Explorer

• <Win+E> Launch

• Change your layout• Sort• Preview pane

• Navigation• Type the address

• <alt+d>

• <alt+left/right> previous/next location• <alt+up> on folder up• Breadcrumb

• Open• <Enter>• Double Click• Right Click -> Open with...

• Preview Pane• <alt+p>

Using Explorer (3)

• Previous versions• Only N and O drive• Is not a backup system!• Limited time / capacity• Not every version will be avalaible

• Weekdays at 10:30; 12:00; 15:00

• Folder: Right click -> Properties• Specific file/folder: Right click ->

Restore Previous Version• Actions

• Open and have a look• Copy to another location• Restore and replace the current

content

VDI / VMWare View• VDI access

• https://desktop.be.coleurope.eu• Username (e-mail) and password• Install client

• Best option• Only when you need future access

from this computer

• HTML Access• OK option• One time access from specific

computer

• Switch off the screen = log off• No need to log off yourself• No need to shutdown

(applications)• NB advisable to reboot once a

week• Tip: do so before leaving for lunch

Remote support

• From inside the College• Get your system name

• <Win>• See computer name in Start Menu

• Ask for password (see TeamViewer screen)

• From outside the College(works always, from inside CoE)

• Get/give Teamviewer ID• E.g. 685 541 831

• Get/give Password• E.g. 392cds• Changes once in a while

• Close connection: X

• <Win+L> lock computer• <Win+F> Find anything• <ctrl+alt+del> show system box• <PrtScr> snapshot whole screen• <alt+PrtScr> Snapshot active window• <F5> refresh current window/list• <ctrl+mouse scroll wheel> zoom in/out (where

supported)• <ctrl+z> undo action (where supported)• <ctrl+y> redo action (where supported)• <tab> move to next field• <alt> activate file menu• <ctrl+home> jump to start in section

• <ctrl+end> jump to end in section• <ctrl+tab> move to next tab• <alt+x> where x is an underlinded letter:

perform command• <ctrl+n> new document / file• <ctrl+s> save document / file• <ctrl+p> print document / file• <alt+F4> close application• <ctrl+F4/w> close window within application• <ctrl+t> new tab (browsers)
