Lighting Plan - AWESTRUCK Hafsa Amir A2 One of the elements of the mise-en-scene that has the greatest influence on a film is lighting. It has the power to evoke emotions in the film. It can also be used to manipulate the viewer’s attitude towards a setting or a character. The way light is used can make people look beautiful or ugly, soft or harsh, and artificial or real. There are two types of lighting. HIGH KEY LIGHTING High-key lighting is a style of lighting for film, television, or photography that aims to reduce the lighting ratio present in the scene. It is often used in sitcoms and comedies. High-key lighting is usually quite homogeneous and its use in free from dark shadows. High-key lighting found its use in classical Hollywood cinema because it was well suited for three-point lighting and other filmmaking traditions. It is an overall lighting design which uses the fill light and backlight to create low contrast between brighter and darker areas. It can be used for both daylight and night scenes. LOW KEY LIGHTING It is a necessary element in creatingtelevisionorfilm,photographyforlightingis a style ofkey lighting-Low , andfill light, akey lightuses apoint lighting-three,lightingphotographiceffect. Traditionalchiaroscuroa key lighting often uses only one key light, optionally controlled with a fill-for illumination. Lowback lighta matography to refer to any scene with a high. The term "low key" is used in cinereflectorlight or a simple eighten the sense of alienationlighting ratio, especially if there is a predominance of shadowy areas. It tends to h .felt by the viewer, hence is commonly used in film noir and horror genre. LIGHTING USED IN ROMANTIC COMEDIES In romantic movies all sorts of lighting is used. But, mostly high key lighting in romantic comedy films to be precise as such movies have a joyous vibe attached to them along with a fun filled story line. Also, High key lighting makes the image to be seen more clearly causing the audience to easily distinguish the characters expressions. LIGHTING USED IN MY FILM - AWESTRUCK I have used both high key lighting and low key lighting. For the scenes shot outdoors I've used high key lighting; sun being the major source of light since it was daytime when I was shooting

those scenes. It was purposefully done under daytime as sunlight provides a more realistic look to the footage and also, adds a fresh vibe to it. For indoor scenes I have used low key lighting to show dim light scenario when Sean and Nick are sleeping in their room bevause obviously nobody sleeps with the lights on.
