Relevance to Severe Mental Illness

• It is recognised that people with serious mental illness are three times more likely to have physical illness than the rest of the population. Most deaths in the SMI population are attributable to five big killers which include heart disease and stroke. This is due to a higher prevalence of modifiable risk factors:
