Terminalia arjuna has been traditionally known for its cardiotonic

properties, since centuries and has been proven by modern research. The

Arjuna is a 20-25 m huge tree grows in

yellow flowers, appears during

The use of Arjuna has been introduced

by Vagbhata during 7th century CE.

In Ayurveda, it used for the treatment

of hemorrhages, ulcers, wounds and

as cardiotonic.


Hypolipidemic agent: The bark extract of Arjuna shows ‘hypolipidemic activity’ that

attributes to the inhibition of oxidative stress. The presence of Arjunic acid inhibits

HMG- CoA reductase activity, which lowers the elevated levels of LDL cholesterol and

can slow the progression of ‘atherosclerotic lesions’.

Cardioprotactive activity: The bark of Arjuna is rich in alkaloids, glycosides, saponins

and glycosides. These active compounds are known for their cardio protective activity.
