TEETHING AND YOUR BABY

•Teething is when first set of teeth starts to erupt in your baby’smouth. These teeth break the gums and then come in the mouth.

•Teething usually begins at around 6 months of age. By the age of 3years baby has all milk teeth in his/ her mouth.

TEETHING TIMELINE:

•The symptom varies for each baby. Some babies show severesymptoms and hence face lots of problems and some does notshow any symptoms and the teething is normal.

•The soreness and swelling before the teeth comes out in themouth is the reason of pain which usually diminishes as the toothbreak through the gums.

WHAT ARE TEETHING TROUBLES?

•Drooling

•Mood changes

•Swollen gums

•Crying

•Restlessness in night

•Mild fever

• Sometimes baby is found chewing on his fingers or toys to helprelease pressure on gums. Also they refuse to eat or drinkbecause of pain.

Application of cold on gums:

•This method reduces swelling and inflammationof gums and thereby helps in reducing pain.

•It can be applied by placing any cold objects atbaby’s gums like placing cold cloth or massagingwith clean and cold fingers.

How to ease teething pain without medicine?

Application of rings:

•Teething rings help baby’s to release pressure. It can be placed infreezer and given to baby to use.

•However, various types of teething rings are available in market.You should be very careful while choosing it as some teething ringscould be uncomfortable for the child and some may containhazardous chemical in it.

MEDICAL MANAGEMENT

•Sometimes, pain is very severe and is difficult to manage with nonmedical remedies then medical management is considered.However, dentist needs to be contacted for any medical treatment.

•Painkiller(NSAIDS)

•Application of 5% lidocaine gel produces anesthesia within 2-5minutes lasting for 10-20 minutes
