Why is Medicare important to you?

“I think it's helped control the costs of medicine. We wouldn't be able to afford insurance. At this age, you have to have a supplement of some sort to be able to afford any health problems. Medicare has just been an awful good deal.”

– Ron Stoefen, 77

Why is Medicare important to you?

“I don't think we'd live as long without it. We'd stay away from medical doctors and we'd conserve because of our medical problems. Older folks would be less likely to do things like get a yearly physical. You'd only be able to go so far and you'd die sooner. When you retire, it allows you to enjoy life a little longer. A person wouldn't have enough money to get medical insurance.”

– JoAnn Park, 84

“It’s just nice to go to the doctor and not have to worry too much. The older you get, the more often you go.

It’s hard to imagine all those years without it. Today, it would mean large premiums for everyone.”

– Glenn Brueske, 82

Why is Medicare important to you?

“With Medicare, you still have a lot of things to think about, but nothing to worry about. But other things have changed and grown more expensive: gas, transportation, medicine. Without Medicare, I'd be spending a lot more than I have. I don't know what I'd do. Without it, you'd have more living in poverty or living with relatives who could care for them.”

– Darrel Anderson, 81

Why is Medicare important to you?

"It's been a safety net. Without it, I'd either have no coverage or buy coverage through another insurance company. And I don't know how, because it'd be expensive. We're very dependent on it for our health. I've had no problems, but my wife required a major surgery. Without coverage, that would have been a real financial burden.”

– Dar Britzman, 84
