What is a pregnancy scan? A pregnancy scan is a common diagnostic method that utilizes ultrasound technology to achieve

a clear image of the organs and body tissues of the baby. It plays an important role in maternal medicine and for this reason, you should make it a point to have at least two pregnancy scans: the early pregnancy scan (7 to 11 weeks of gestation) and the anomaly scan (19 to 24 weeks of gestation).

The early pregnancy scan is important because it analyzes the estimated date of delivery of your

baby, determine the viability of early pregnancy, and check if you’re carrying twins or not. On the other hand, the anomaly scan is performed to check for any sign of structural

abnormality—particularly—in the chest, head, heart, stomach, and limb areas.

What should be done prior to the pregnancy scan? In general, you don’t have to do anything special prior to the scan. You simply need to consume

at least a pint of any clear fluid approximately one hour before your appointment so that your bladder will be full. This is important because it significantly increases the image quality as well as the diagnostic features of the pregnancy scan.

Summary Even though pregnancies can be done without an ultrasound scan. This is because your doctor

can achieve a clear image of the organs, muscles, and other body parts of your unborn child. Plus, he/she can get a hold of important information that are crucial when it comes to determining your young one’s overall health. Putting the abovementioned factors into consideration, it can be said that investing in pregnancy scans is a must, especially if you want what’s best for your future child.
